*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

Bit of a laugh this is.

Just called o2 because I still have 'No Service', nearly 24 hrs after registering it up with iTunes.

Seems like loads and loads of orders are being put through manually. She basically said that these manual entries will take 2-3 days to have their phones activated. Call back in 3 days if you dont have a service.

Quite amazing considering I ordered and gave details over the phone to CPW on the Thursday at approx 10:30am.

Not impressed by the roll out I must say. Total balls up imo.

Bit of a long shot this but, you might be in a non 3g area so try turning the 3g off in the menu and see if you get a signal.

It sounds daft I know but when I got mine where I live the 3g signal isn't the best so I was on 1 - 2 bars. Turning it off and going back to gsm I was on full. Could be whats causing the no signal?

As I can't be bothered to go through 46 pages of convo's can anyone tell me, if I buy the 3G iPhone from Apple instore do I have to choose my contract there and then?

Many Thanks,
Jake

*******'s!

I really don't want an O2 contract, I deal with them daily and hate them. I want to keep my T-Mobly one...

Ah I'm sure it won't be long till it's unlocked and they start falling off the back of lorrys :p

Not sure if you guys know about this, but I just activated my v1 phone on my O2 sim (PAYG) without having an official iPhone contract. So I can now use my V1 phone on the new software without unlocking.

Still need to jailbreak for 3rd party apps and unlock for non O2 sims but it gets me up and running until Pwnage is released.

See the 2 threads below for more info.

Given that I preordered my phone, I was expecting it to be up as soon as I activated - it's not.

Just been into CPW to look at their demo phones and none of them have the yellow/warm tint (same firmware). When I enquired about a possible replacement, they said they don't offer replacements. I said i'd cancel the order within my 14days, they said they don't allow that (Manager confirmed)!
I told him to he'd better check that because he was blatantly wrong. Muppets.

I am having a voicemail issue.
I set up a passcode for it and stuff, but when you ring my phone, it just rings out, and if i decline the call, the call just disconnects.
Is there something else i need to do to set up the voicemail?

Edit, nvm found it on the o2 web site :)

yep same here. It is like buying a car and them giving you the wrong set of keys. You can open the doors but not start the thing. Total bs imo.

If there is something wrong with it you should be able to get a refund / swap it out / exchange / cancel no probs at this early stage surely?

Richie.

You have every right to return it within 14 days. The leaflet I got from O2 with mine even states this.

If you buy it in a shop you don't have any legal rights. O2 and CPW might have their own returns policies but just because O2 allow returns wthin 14 days it doesn't mean that CPW will as well. If you've been told by a manager that they won't accept a return then it's probably true.

My step dad got his white one yesterday! Asked him to send me some pics! Actually looks quite nice in white!

Before you ask, it's not unlocked, it's just on Vodaphone Portugal! Seems like it was moderately easy to get one out there!

You can use any old O2 PAYG sim in your old iPhone. Just give your details to O2 and they enable it in 24 hours

I just sold my old one to a mate with the v2 software and it is all working fine. No need to hack.

The guy clearly wasn't interested in asking me if I'd bought it in-store or online. Luckily a call to retail support services has a note attached to my account for a no hassle replacement when stock is in.

There's two activations that need to be done:

1. The iTunes activation, which you plug your phone into, and it allows you to turn on the phone. The servers were down for this for a long while.
2. Mobile service activation. This is O2's job. Those of you who had to fill out a paper contract due to their online systems being down will have to have this done. There's a message on the O2 website saying they have thousands of these to process manually, so it could be up to three days.

Still no delivery - phoned o2 and was advised o2 will be moving from DHL in a few months as they passed most o2 deliveries onto third party drivers and not DHL drivers

Update...mine never arived yesterday as o2 promised...as DHL didnt have time to deliver it...as it was on next day and I kicked up after taking a day off work to be in for it, o2 have generously given me the 16gb iPhone for free, refunding my 59 upgrade fee.

Not really o2's fault but it goes to show that there are some nice people left in the world...

Not sure if this has been mentioned before as this thread is massive...but I didnt even need to activate it either...slotted in my original o2 iphone sim and away I went...magic. result to all the iPhone kaos

Well this isnt exactly right, because I didnt fill out paperwork. I gave all details over the phone on Thursday, and I have No Service.

I registered/preordered online at CPW, I don't need to do anything further with O2 do I? Still no service after activating yesterday.

Not true, it is a legal requirement for mobile phones that whoever bought it can return it within 14 days and only have to pay for the usage they had during that time.

It was brought in to stop high pressure selling etc.

nooooooo!!

this is bang out of order...

after not managing to get one in town yesterday, i was pretty happy that CPW actually rang me as a callback from the day before and asked if i wanted to proceed with the order... of course i said yes and the whole thing got processed... they gave me the option of recieving it today for an extra £10 for the saturday delivery and yes, albeit a bit sad i took this option.

as a result i have stayed in today and missed out on a game of golf with my dad thinking that due to the fact that i actually paid to get it a bit quicker getting it today would be a definite :(

anyways, long story short, i got a bit impatient since i had a feeling couriers only delivered until 1 on saturdays and rang CPW, only to be told that is hasn't actually been dispatched and now they are out of stock...

they said it could be up to 2 weeks now till i get my order fulfilled :( - suffice to say they have refunded the £10 but i'm still ****** that they didn't give me a call or something as i've wasted a day...

this iPhone is turning out to be a lot of bloody hassel so far it better be as good as it looks!
