Watched most of it, skipped bits. I can kind of see why the big movie companies didn't want it. As a movie it's well made with great acting but it's missing something that the 80's and 90's mob films had. I bit disappointed overall. I think I've just watched too many mob movies so have high standards or I've just got tired of watching movies in general. I'll watch it proper a couple more times sometime.

So Frank Sheeran killed Jimmy Hoffa then, apparently.

Give it a chance, deffo agree with you, it's a slow start

The make up is fairly epic too I think :)

Yeah it got better, just finished it, I can't say I'm a huge fan of it but I don't hate it either. Great acting etc..

It is a bit mental when you think about the budget for something like this, obvs they've got a bunch of locations and a famous cast etc... I guess because it was slow moving I was left pondering things like the fact they've gone and built a 70s hotel room set just for about 2 seconds to show a shot of two characters getting up and leaving etc...

Yeah that GCI "make up"/ageing effect is pretty damn cool, was a bit odd seeing it at first but got used to it.

Watched it last night and thought it was excellent. As for the de-aging, I noticed the initial time (probably because I was looking for it) but then for the rest of the movie I never noticed it once. Bit like when I first watched Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, after a bit you forget you;re watching CGI actors.

Really liked this film, typical Scorsese which is no bad thing! :D

I thought the de-aging was done much better than that in gemini man, that had some really bad parts IMO.

Now I want to go back and watch Casino :D

Having loved many past films of Scorcesse, De Niro, Pacino and Pesci I had high hopes for this film and I was really lookign forward to it. I even avoided watching any trailers or interviews.

Sadly I found it almost devoid of any enjoyment at all.

De Niro was just going through the motions, I didn't believe at any point he was playing anyone other than his, now standard, gangster character. Pacino just shouted a lot. Keitel was criminallly under used.

Scorcesse's must have thought he was directing Goodfellas again, because that's exactly what it felt like. Even the songs he used seemed to be the same.

The de-aging was ok, but giving De Niro blue eyes made him look odd. I would have prefered to have had them cast actors of the apropriate age. Rather than using actors who having been dining out on past glories for far too long.

I actually think 1992's Hoffa was a better film and I can see why all the big studios past on this.

terrible. 5/10. only reason got 5 is the cast.

the filming is terrible. this is supposed to be close to a $200 million film. the filming looks like its been done on a shoe string budget. some of the starting footage for eg is truly terrible.
this film wont get back 160m in its wildest dreams. i tried 4 nights in row to finish it. what is this film ? its basically a good fellas want to be but done worse with a bigger cast. or should i say a more famous cast.

we all wanted the cast in the same film but not at the end of the careers of these brilliant people. deniro has the same stupid face manerisms like a disease. i love him in most films but once you notice that facial manerism he does it kill any performanace he does. pacino i rate as the best person for this kinda gangster media in history but its just run of the mill peformance. the best has been and gone. it feels a netflix performance. if you get what i mean. not a god father or a goodfellas kinda deal. just a rehearsal or a lets get paid and go through the motions.

the story line is kinda boring probably truish just not done well and as said 20 years earlier this would have probably been a proper oscar contender. now...just a netflix filler. it cost 160m to make its made 25m now and on netflix. says it all tbh. sad. could have been so much better. sometimes having too many stars just doesnt work.

what does me is it will probably win oscars for performances or some other crap. even though its terrible based just on whos in it.

Yeah, thats the thing.. it did drag on.

I mean it isn't like people can't sit through long periods of viewing either - I can certainly sit down and watch several episodes of the Sopranos back to back, ditto to the Wire, True Detective, Line of Duty etc...

I didn't get into GoT until I think 3 season were available on DVD/BluRay (I don't have Sky) - I watched the first one and immediately binge watched 2-3 more episodes and ordered the other seasons.

I've got no issue watching say 3-4 hours of plenty of content - stranger things, breaking bad etc.. it isn't the case for everything but there are various shows on Netflix or various boxed sets where you can sit and watch that sort of amount of material without it dragging.

And its not just TV shows either, obviously they're structured to often give you cliff hangers etc.. at the end of an episode etc.. I would't find it anywhere near as monotonous to watch 4 hours worth of say the Godfather trilogy in one sitting (albeit with some breaks)... or even Star Wars, Harry Potter etc..

I don't think this was terrible, I did however have a lot of hope for it given the cast and the creator and it certainly didn't grip me to the point were I wanted to watch it in a single sitting.

Watched it last night after seeing it was 3 and half hours long, that's longest film I've watched in years. Strangely when watching it didn't feel like it was that long, editor did a great job with the pacing.

You can tell they are older than they should've been with how they walked throughout the film and De Niro 'beating' that store clerk near the start was cringe they should have used a double for that. Not quite sure what was going off with his right arm in that scene either with how he didn't move it at all.

I'm about two thirds of the way through and finding it a slog. The likes of Goodfellas and Casino are a hard act to follow and it's nowhere near that level for me.

Film of the year for me. A masterpiece.

i dont get how people can say things like this . just watch pesci for eg. if you compiled what he does in a film its where facial expressions left and right side and thats what it is. people are talking oscars for their performances. mind boggling.

Explain why you think the filming is terrible...

it feels a netflix performance. if you get what i mean.
So performances are now based on the platform they run on? Utter nonsense....There are many Netflix shows with superb performances in them...take The Crown for example

the story line is kinda boring probably truish just not done well and as said 20 years earlier this would have probably been a proper oscar contender. now...just a netflix filler. it cost 160m to make its made 25m now and on netflix. says it all tbh. sad. could have been so much better. sometimes having too many stars just doesnt work.
Do you even know what the film is exploring ? :p

what does me is it will probably win oscars for performances or some other crap. even though its terrible based just on whos in it.

lol
