The last game you completed, and rating.

Cthon.

Available on Steam & Itch.io.

+ very good ambient sound and music (probably my favourite feature of the game)
+ difficulty is quite well balanced
+ varied level themes (I especially like the 'Temple' levels)
+ short - which can be a good or bad thing, but for this, I think a shorter length suited me well
+ updates have made the game quite a bit better than when I initially tried it
+ reasonable variety of upgrades for inventory/weapons

- options to change the resolution is very much needed
- you can save your progress but only at the end of a level, which I guess is a minor complaint when you consider how short the game is (oh, and the fact that it has roguelike elements :o :D)
- just maybe a tad overpriced (not sure about that)
- very limited selection of weapons, though I didn't find this to be as restrictive as I first thought

Sacred 3

+ Local Co-Op (its been great playing it with my son)
+ Colouful graphics
+ Decent difficulty curve with only a couple of questionable areas
+ Interesting and varied boss battles

-Character customization is pretty much impossible
-NPC design is limited (outside of Boss battles) with various mobs constantly being recycled.
-Its not a Sacred game, the name deceives the franchise
-Its too short

I heard awful things about this game, but myself and my son love local coop games. We are waiting for the next Lego Marvel game and I had this in my steam library gathering dust and we gave it a go. He loves it, and his enthusiasm for the game fed onto me as well.

Its not great, but its very far from bad.

Wolfenstein II : New Collosus - 9/10

I couldn't put it down. Great visuals, great gameplay, great voice acting, great sound track.

Not only does it support 21:9, but even the cut scenes support the resolution. Brilliant Bethesda, for a change. :)

why are all the older games better?

To some extent, I think we are swayed by our fond memories of playing these years ago, but I do also believe the fairly simplistic gameplay is one of the strong points of older games. I like trying out new games as much as anyone, but I couldn't live without older titles and mods.

For example, although not a very old or simple title for that matter, as much as I love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I probably wouldn't touch it now if mods weren't around (ok, well, maybe if running a super high resolution with a field of view fix or something).

Wot he said basically. The tongue in cheek cut scenes really made the game a great experience. I've played Doom 3 times and I'll easily play this again maybe on the hardest level.

I can't see me even contemplating COD WWII now after this as I don't play online much anymore.

Shadow of Mordor

Had this in my library for a long time , and thought with Shadow of War being released I should work my way through it.

Getting 100% completion on the campaign took me about 26 hours, and I am now working my way through some of the DLC.

The first 20 or so hours I thoroughly enjoyed it, but you get to a certain point in the game after upgrades to skills and weapons that most of the Orcs etc are just cannon fodder. The content becomes easy because you are basically a god.

So the last few hours were just a rush through the missions and the extras to finish the game and the last boss is laughably easy and similar to a QTE experience.

Still I did enjoy it and I wish I have played it earlier.

The Evil Within 2. Completely mixed emotions now this is over. Absolutely loved every minute of this game, great finale but gutted it's over particularly as this is my perfect type of game and there are so few like it around! Please, please, please let there be a sequel. Game of the year for me. 10/10

Completed XCOM2: WOTC as a rookie.

Loved it, great production, sound, graphics. A solid 9/10 from me.

Moved on to playing through Zelda: Call Of the Wild. Playing that gives context as to why I can't give XCOM2 a 10/10.

GTA 5. I just stopped playing it for a while and decided to finish the campaign. I'm now grinding to the end of Batman Arkham Knight for the same reason.

I have tonnes of games that I play and then never get finished. Bioshock Infinite is another along with XCOM.

I play them for a few weeks and then start playing some other multiplayer game with friends and they get forgotten. It goes for so long that I forget where I am so have to just do a restart and grind through to the end

You need to go back to Bioshock Infinite - best ending ever in game for me, so clever.

I'm about halfway through Batman after a restart and am just ploughing through the main quest, not really bothering with side quests unless one is just literally en route.

I'll definitely get back into Bioshock Infinite next. I think I'm about half way through but I'll just restart that and stream it to the big screen in the lounge to get a bit more immersion

My advice would be to not be too put off if you don't fully grasp what is going on - I only had a partial understanding but the ending still wiped me out and then when I went and read an explanation of the full plot I was impressed all the more. It's a game that like one of those films that's better the second time around as you know what's going on and you pick up so much you missed the first time. The Burial at Sea DLCs are brilliant also.
