Firewatch - 9/10

This is one of those games I've been meaning to play for ages, I eventually bought it a few months ago in a sale after a friend was telling me how great it was, but I still didn't get around to playing it until the other day, I just kept thinking it looked boring.

Genuinely amazed at how good it is, I think its one of the best examples of story telling I've come across in a game, and the voice acting is superb. I really did feel so involved in the story. I almost played it in one sitting, though did need to take a bit of a break to make dinner about an hour from the end, and I think I'd recommend playing through in one go if possible.

I guess one criticism is that its only around 4 to 4.5 hours long, and that could seem rather short if the not in a sale, but I honestly felt it was the perfect length, you wouldn't want it to drag.

I don't think I'd say much more as it would spoil the experience for anybody yet to try it, but I'd really recommend giving it a try if like me you've been putting it off.

Agreed. A brilliant game and really clever story within the story. Too clever for me as I hardly caught any of it and it was only after I watched some explanation YouTube videos that I realised just how much all was not as it seemed!

Assassins creed Origins 8/10

+ A nice entry into the series which was going stale
+ Protagonist is quiet likeable
+ Took a page out of Witcher 3 with side quests being pretty solid in their own right with back stories
+ World feels pretty dynamic, see animals attacking animals' guards coming from close by encampments to fortify another one under attack
+ Egypt is an amazing setting
+ Game at time looks spectacular

- Combat at times is a bit clunky
- AI at times is a bit stupid, but not massive issue
- Some spot such as main cities quiet taxing on systems
- while game looks amazing at times, some textures do also look meh close up
- Main story is actually quiet short
- Some people may not like that your forced to do side quests to level up to carry on with main story

Conarium. Horror type adventure (walking simulator - hate using that term) based on HP Lovecraft's story The Mountains of Madness. Great looking game with some fairly light puzzles but with a brilliantly intriguing story if you can fully embrace it and become immersed. About 4 hours long which felt about right. An absolute must for fans of Lovecraft's work and a cool 'trip' and/or introduction to his kind of work for everyone else. 7.5/10

Wolfenstein - New Order gets an 8/10 from myself.

I loved it begin to end. storyline, gameplay and character interaction all top notch
I finished that last night. Played it all on the second difficulty level until the last phase of the boss when I was just like eff this after trying it a dozen times so bumped it down to the easiest one.

I thought it was OK. One thing that really irked me was having to manually pick up weapons and ammo and armor. That makes sense in something more slowly paced, or where you can only carry 2 or 3 weapons, but it's stupid for a fast paced run and gun walking gun rack game.

I really liked Firewatch. Beautiful to look at and like you say really involving. I felt guilty for the choices I said my character had made, it was weird. The ending was great.

Prey 9/10

Must have for System Shock fans. Sure it doesn't looks amazing for a 2017 game, but sounds epic, it's atmospheric and the story is damn brilliant.

You have choices, make them carefully.

Dat ending...

Cuphead. 9/10. Brilliant game but you really have to put the time in , or at least if like me you don't play run and gun platform games very much you do. Over 26 hours for me to finish. It can be very frustrating especially trying to get all the secrets which involves finishing the levels with high grades.

Wolfenstein 2 The New Colussus. I so wasn't ready for this game to end that I was actually angry when it did last night. It's not that they cut it short or anything and I got 16 hours out of it including doing 5-6 of the side quests. It was just so damn good and now that's over I'm not happy. 9/10.

I loved that game, I'll probably do a full playthrough again in a week or two.

The part were the German lady was in the capsule with the guy with the afro hair, and he was ...er... trying to push her out by using his pelvis and they weren't wearing any pants... seeing stuff like that in a video game is hilarious, it was done really well. :D

Yeah I really looked forward to all the cut scenes - so well done and so funny. Perfect entertainment for me. I still have a lot of side quests to do but it's not quite the same knowing that I've seen all the story now...

Cave Story+ 9.9/10

Oh my, what a brilliant game. It's got cute rabbit girls so I was always going to enjoy it but...

...it's a bloody brilliant game for other reasons too!

Actually opened my eyes to a whole genre (Metroidvanias), which I currently can't get enough of.

It's final act is bloody hard tho. You're in cruise control for 3/4 of the game then - bam! Massive Difficultly Spike of Impaling +5 ahoy!

Prey 9/10

Must have for System Shock fans.
Consider my interest piqued as a huge SS2 fan!

Dungeon Souls 8/10. It kept me hooked & I'll be playing through again, but on different classes this time.
The ending though... Started to tell a story, which was a nice surprise, but....

Before I manage to finish Alien, I have to comment on Two Worlds 2: Call of the Tenebrae.

I picked this up because I really liked TW2 despite it being incredibly janky. I've always had a soft spot for flaky RPGs if they give you a big world to explore and make at least something abou the game interesting to get stuck into - setting, characters, story, experience or levelling system. In the case of TW2 it was definitely the magic system. I found it just so much fun to experiment with. The world wasn't great, but had enough of a mix of pleasingly silly and serious elements to keep me interested. I had a fun 60 hours or so with it and the first expansion.

So, a number of years down the line I was tempted back by this new and unexpected DLC.

And... jeez, talk about souring pleasant memories. This game just feels too out of its time in 2017. The movement is clumsy, the world is bland, the graphics are dated (despite the lighting upgrades), the level you're promoted to for the DLC removes too much choice and interest from the levelling system, there's nothing new in the magic system that I could see, the quests involve too much back-and-forth, and the characters are pretty hammily scripted RPG fare. The story does pick up a bit right at the end to be fair, but this is only really related through a repetitive series of cut-scenes with a lot of drudgery in between.

I should have left my fond memories for this series in the past. 3/10 :(

Condemed: Criminal Origins (2006). Quite enjoyed this predominantly melee based detective / psychological horror that I missed the first time around. Still looks ok and has some fairly original ideas. Quite short at around 9 hours so well worth a look for anyone who also missed this one. 7/10
