Alien Isolation

9/10

Definitely one of the best single player games I have played. To be honest I have played nothing like it before, I know there is outlast and amnesia which I haven't played , but they are a slightly different setting and probably atmosphere.

So back to AI, the err.. A.I. is very well done I only played on the medium difficulty, can't remember if that's what it's called but I never play easy or hard. It is unexpected which means you might be fooled into believing you're clear and then boom.. definitely a few poo your pants moments which again is a first for me.

After completing the game I decided to watch the movies, this made me further appreciate the details put into the graphics and sound design.

As for the actual story I'd say a disappointing ending, which is why it's not more than a 9 out of 10.

I hear they (different developer) are making another, not sure whether a sequel or not but they have a high standard to live up to.

Also there are a few DLCs available, I might wait a bit before deciding to buy.. as it takes a lot of time and effort to play this game :p

That's one thing that impressed me I think it took 23 hours to complete .. longer than I was expecting :) Definitely a couple of hours added due to how much I died.. mainly on one of the latter missions.

Dues Ex Mankind Divided - Would definitely recommend the game for anyone liking sneaking around in games. Put in just over 100 hours, but that's with a few reloads here and there, trying my best to get the Pacifist (got it) and the Foxiest of the Hounds (did not get). So guessing I set of an alarm sometime and missed it ! :( It's all good though, pretty sure I be replaying this and HR one day again, loved both games.

Question is what to play next though. Could do the DLC but having played HR and MD right after each other would prefer something new. Any recommendations ? :p

Tomb Raider (1st PC reboot)

Hard game to review. I loved some aspects of it, and not so much others, but weirdly it wasnt the bits I thought they would get right that they did - i.e. i thought the combat and story were great & engaging whereas the tombs & puzzles were janky

Graphics & cinematography were great but sometimes I wanted complete mouse freedom and it forced me to face a certain way, which made it feel totally linear, like I could just press forward and dodge quicktime events.

I liked the combat, compared to the original Playstation ones which were the last I played the combat is much much better.

The jumping stuff was ok, pretty cool I guess. The controls were totally janky at times but I do understand because they went for the really nicely animated look, which was ok.

I wanted a lot more exploration & tombs though! The setting wasnt so great and it was a bunch of hi-octance action when I just wanted to solve puzzles and explore more beautiful places.

I will play the next one soon, a friend just gave me a key... I hope they tone down the action a bit and up the tomb factor. The reboot was done well, even though at times the story was a bit janky.

overall a good experience (i finished it pretty quickly, more than I can say about other games) but felt like the formula could do with a bit of refinement & lead back to the original roots puzzle action. It was a bit to obvious how to do everything, too much hand holding. But I know that is how AAA games are nowadays.

shrug/10 Around a 7.7 or something, but it *is* a really good & enjoyable game, but its just I think it could be so much better. Idk

^ Personally I thought the next game (Rise of the Tomb Raider) improved on the first in several ways. There are many more tombs with puzzles, although these are optional due to many people apparently not liking that aspect of the first game. If that's what you're looking for I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I'm looking for a new game to play and still have this to go through. May give it a try as I liked the previous one.

Also considering Dishonored 2.

@zola25 Hopefully they are better crafted too. Way way way to handholdy. And only one puzzle per tomb which were pretty clunky removed any sort of suspense.. not like an *actual tomb* with *hidden secrets*. I want to be in a giant tomb searching for secret doors and stuff with my own brain, not just press a button and walk towards glowy things then come out into an open world map.

Whoever invented the triple-A hunter-vision, animus pulse, blah blah whatever cheat mode for dummies owes games an apology. I know i dont have to use it (i will try not to next time) but the whole flow of the game is built around people using it.

Also did I say I hated the setting? Good for a reboot but bleh not enough of the cool mysticism, which, when it did appear was pretty cool, I dig that. The 3rd iteration looks like it might be back to what I think it should be in terms of that. Maya has a cool style

I know it is a AAA massive budget game, which, for that, did have some really good moments. Lara was a good character too, she didnt annoy me which was refreshing

I did like it, i dont like AAA gaming practices. Actually bought assassins creed origins off the back of it because i enjoyed the setting. My first AC game, i usually gave them a wide berth

I finished the first one but lost interest half way through the second.

Far Cry 5. One of the most annoying games I've ever played. There are many reasons I didn't like it. A few of them being - The innane and often contradictory ramblings of the antagonist/s, the immersion breaking methods used to move the storyline on and the decision to use a silent protagonist. The scenes in which you are lectured (incoherently) by one of the Seed clan was frustrating because it almost demanded that you have a voice. After being locked in a cage / tied to a chair several times over and then lectured at, I'm sure I'd want to say something. 5/10 (5 points awarded because I enjoyed firing missiles at the cows).

I have similar issues with all of the far cry games bar the first one to be honest.

I have tried very hard to like them, I just can't :(

Deus Ex : Mankind Divded - The side missions were better than the story mission. This was a good looking game, but not particularly memorable. 7/10

Deus Ex : Human Revolution - So there was a whole 3rd act of this game that I totally forgot about. It holds up pretty well still though. Better story than Mankind Divided though Adam Jensen is the most bored sounding avatar ever.

8/10

The Steam completion quest goes on with... Ryse: Son of Rome.

Completed it in pretty much one sitting. If I paid £40 for it I'd be annoyed. I only payed £4 though and actually it wasn't too bad. It looks stunning.

Mad Max - 8.5/10.

Just replayed it again after finishing it back in 2016. Got about 60hrs of gameplay as a result and hugely enjoyed the experience again despite the game being a tad repetitive in places.

Vehicle combat is superb as is customisation, the plot is sound and the references to the Tom Hardy film are great.

Her Story - 6/10

The game gets loads of critical acclaim. Unless you transcribe the script yourself, it's nigh on impossible to get every video (I had to use a slightly ninja way to do it). The story is interesting and I think there will be differing theories about how it ends. Again, another cheap game (think I got it for about £3.00).

Kingdom Come Deliverance and Far Cry 5, both completed on the same day a week or so ago. I was gutted, both excellent games.

KCD - 10/10 (i did not have any issues with bugs or performance)
FC5 - 9.5/10 delivers exactly what you expect, plays brilliant except for the average vehicle handling. Just like wildlands!
I've just ordered Kingdom Come Deliverance, my only worry is the whole save thing, got a baby so gaming is only gonna be in short bursts

They fixed it now so you can do a save anywhere, it is just when you log back into game again that save gets deleted. So the only safes that being saved (so to speak) are the once were you either sleep in your bed (or bought bed in an Inn) or if you drinking a schnapps.

Well that's me sorted then :D

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

Installed it as a little snack on the side but ended up totally engrossed in it which was surprising. Great story, loved the Hong Kong settings and has this clunky charm about it.

Tomb Raider (2013 version). Having not played a Tomb Raider game since 1996, I thought I'd give a more recent one a try. The story was passable, but some parts were annoying...

A couple of examples being;
Lara holding a gun at an innocent pilots head and essentially causing his death, then not giving a toss. And her sudden realisation close to the end of the game, that her friends body was going to be used as a vessel in order to reincarnate the Sun Queen, despite it being obvious very early on

The QTE's were annoying and the enemies became boring very quickly. On a positive note, I thought the VO was very well done.

5/10
