Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP)
10/10

Best story I've ever played in a video game. Think Game of thrones but far far more political.
The combat system and job customisation is INCREDIBLE. Combat is challenging and fair.

Honestrly I'm blown away. Its very outdated. This was my third time trying to get into it and just wow.

I remember playing it on the original PlayStation back in 97. I had to get an import copy because it wasn't released over here. I really enjoyed it. Might have to give it a revisit.

Highly recommend Shining Force (was on Mega Drive but has been republished on newer platforms I think). One of my all time favourites and I'm told it's a lot like FFT. 16-bit era so don't expect the most polished graphics or music, but it was excellent at the time and not a lot of games have really raised the tactical RPG bar since!

Give it a revisit. The story has aged VERY well. I struggle to find a game which has a better story for the ammount of hours this game required (35-40). Totally destroys things like The Last of Us.

I've heard REALLY good things about it. I'll try to see if I can emulate it but tbh, Fire Emblem is coming out on the 26 so I think that will probably destroy most of my time.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition - 8/10

Picked up Shadowrun Honk Kong - Extended for £3.75 after playing through Dragonfall. Also another Gem of a game. Not quiet as up there with Dragonfall but great game none the less. Recommend to give both these a try if you like the genera. Hong Kong also drips with atmosphere, but not quiet as much as Dragonfall, still great game overall.

+ Runs smooth
+ A fair bit of content (35-40 hours)
+ Lots to read and understand about the world
+ Combat

- Some skills are overemphasised then other in interactions (Bio-engineering for example)
- Not quiet as good story as Dragonfall

Replayed Shenmue 1 on PC for the first in almost 20 years since first playing it on the Dreamcast, it was great to be able to switch to the Japanese voices to get some new insight into the game.

At the time of its release in my opinion it was the most technically impressive game I'd ever seen regardless of format, one of the few times a game blew away anything comparable on PC for me. I didn't have the best PC then but will was still good enough to play Deus Ex which was less technically impressive but a great game to gauge quality by.

I've got big time nostalgia for Shenmue but I think it still holds up, it's such an an ambitious game, just pottering around the house finding stuff, looking at strange food packets in the stores, buying cassette tapes, etc. It did the detailed stuff so well even without being that intricate a game itself. With just 5 exterior maps it's amazing how well they put it together to last so long.

As a £70 million game in 2000 pretty much based on a Virtua Fighter RPG vanity project for Yu Suzuki (Ryo Hazuki) it was the most expensive game ever back then and it still shows. The 80's setting gave great nostalgia in 2000, now I get double nostalgia in 2019.

Not the best game ever but one of the most ambitious by far and still worth playing.

Shenume 2 which I also loved back in the day doesn't hold up as well, the lifting boxes job really, really sucks, actually stopped my replay of that for now thanks to that, still another great game though with much more combat action.

Shenmue 3 is likely going to be my first and maybe only Epic store purchase.

Bloodstained Ritual of the Knight PS4

8.5/10

I have been looking for this since the kickstarter campaign and since Konami decided not to make any more Castlevania games.

This is a great spiritual successor to Syphony of the Night and all the Metroidvania Castlevanias.

It has loads of content, good boss fights and abilities and loved that had so many different weapon types to suit every person's playstyle.

I wasn't sure where to get this to but after seeing a few comparison videos I stuck with the PS4 version. Loved the loading times which were almost instant from one room to the next.

Also has quite a few easter eggs some of which I really enjoyed, like
The encrypted orchid sword, what type of sword or should i say saber it is ^^ and how they have it's description double encrypted for geeks like me to try to find out.

The music is quite good and memorable in my opinion.

I enjoyeed this game quite a bit and its one of the only 2 games i actually went and got the full platinum trophy, usually i don't bother with trophies. And this is an easy one to get, although you have to do some grinding.

I detracted some points due to the following:

I personally wasn't fond of the boss fights at the later stage where I leveled up to 99, I destroyed them. I wish they scaled a bit based on the users level because the bosses are quite cool but what is the point if i destroy them in 10 seconds more or less.

Some low resolution and textures occur to character models when on close up on dialogues which I find a bit bad in this day and age.

The grinding is a bit too much for a game of this style it was too repetitive especially if you wish to level up certain crystals.

Also a minor thing that annoyed me
Armor wise there are only 2 armor designs that have a different look while the rest is the default design of the main armor, which shows to me that they didnt have time to design all the different armors.
We get different weapons, heads, and scarfs why no armor Mr. Iga?

I thoroughly recommend this to Metroidvania fans.

SOMA 7/10

Awesome game, kept me gripped till the end, which is very rare these days. The gameplay was a little tedious, spending 5 mins staring at the floor in the corner of a room waiting for the unscary AI to **** off was a bit of a downer and I kinda wish i'd played the no monster mode. I guess if you scare easily then that would add a lot of tension for you, but for me it was just an annoyance. It was close to Alien Isolation level of greatness, but the voice acting, boring enemies and meh gfx let it down a bit.

Hellblade: Senua's sacrifice 8/10.

The game was very fluid in terms of the story and the cutscenes. The game was very atmospheric and although not much of a horror game, the environment of the levels builds the apprehension about whats going to happen next. The combat is very simplistic and repeatative which I think could have been better but probably was due to the primary focus wanting to be on the character and the story. Its a fairly short game and could be finished over a weekend. In some part of my head, I half expected the Senua to wake up in some psychiatrist's office where the story being her way of fighting the demons in her head.
There are some fights with bosses but I found them to be a fair bit easy. Overall I think it was a great game because of the story element of it.

SOTTR. 8.5/10.

First dip into a Tomb Raider game in years. Got a little sidetracked in the Hidden City but gobsmacked by how good the last level looked in 4K with RT ultra.

Might just download ROTTR once I’ve finished Metro Exodus which is next on my todo list. :D

Today I completed... .... Battlefield 3 campaign!. I am making an effort to wrap up some game and free up HDD space. I will never play it MP again. Gave up on the coop campaign as it ran like a bag of spanners .
The single player one was a bit of a chore too.
Rating is single player campaign only ...
5.5/10. Visually still looks ok considering its an 8year old game but everything about it is by the numbers and disjointed. BF3 was never about the campaign so I was just glad it had one at all but let's just say I would not go out of your way to play it .
On to BF4 campaign now and it is much better!

D:OS 2. 8/10

Just did a solo run (using a build guide) on tactician. Just fancied a different challenge. Great game, some game breaking options which are annoying in a way, but I struggle to see how you could work around it easily without feeling cheesed, so well done.

Also want to finish it up so I could uninstall and free up some space. Want to do the same with some other games!

DmC: Devil May Cry. 8/10. Very good action combat game from Ninja Theory with an interesting combat system. I feel that the DMC player base were unfairly harsh on it due to being a different developer, the character redesign of Dante (understandable) and the switch to 30fps on console originally (play the definitive edition on current gen console or PC for 60fps.

on the edge of the curve as always with my games ;)
Lara Croft GOL - coop - A game which was only ever a budget title at launch even when it came out many years ago.... but it has held up well and a fun coop experience. Esp considering what I paid for it it is well worth a look and you get a good 8 hrs worth out of it.

7.5/10 worth a buy!.

Mutant Zero: Road to Eden - 8/10

Was always on my list, but with it being free on Epic Launder, picked it up. Was a pretty good game from start to end. While not XCOM certainly has that vibe. The overall story is interesting and fun to hear of humans as "Ancients" and come across our every day tech and some of their comments on it. Combat is fun, can work silently initially to pick off enemies with silent weapons then reshuffle and so on as combat can be difficult at times as usually many more enemies. Its not an overly long game, around 20 hours to do all the maps fully (main map broken into small segments).

+ Background story is solid
+ Mix of silent combat initially is fun
+ Normal combat is fun
+ Graphics are solid
+ Comments your squad make can be amusing

- Enemies are broadly the same across the game
- Overland speed on maps is kind of slow
- Not massive variety in weapons, more so silent ones

GTA V online. I only reinstalled it after 2 years, to see how egregious the casino update was. I used a dll injector to boost my level and generate 500 million for the sake of being able to access all the content. Played for two weeks and then I was banned. More than enough time to determine that I never want to play it again. Utter trash.
