The last game you completed, and rating.

Just completed Mass Effect (50 hours gametime, hit level 50 on normal).

8.5/10 - looking forward to playing through 2 and 3 now. :)

I would agree with your score for Mass Effect but I don't know how you got 50 hours out of it.When I played it I think I got just over 25 hours and that was with a lot of grind and doing most of the side missions.

I completed every single side mission I found, including all the collections. Also must have got pretty much all resources from planets. I'm a bit of a completionist sometimes. ;)

Also, I headed to Virmire early on one occasion and didn't realise I couldnt' leave, so got a reasonable way in before loading an earlier save to do the other missions beforehand, d'oh!

F.E.A.R. + Resurrection mod (intervals 1,2 and 6)

+ level design - I actually think this was the main strength to the mod; wouldn't look out of place at all when put along side the original
+ stays true to the original fear experience imo; if you want more of the same, go for it...scares, surreal moments, atmosphere, etc
+ enhanced visuals - nothing major, but a few nice little touches here and there
+ plenty of combat

- 'only' three intervals done so far, so this looks to be a work in progress
- use of voices at times seems a little unnecessary, and at others not quite enough (very minor criticism)
- bugs / crashes; unfortunately, I encountered quite a lot of issues, but seeing as I wanted to play the mod right through to completion, I felt it was well worth it (those of you not quite as keen on F.E.A.R might do better to put this to one side for now due to.....save games not always reloading / after death, your perspective respawns 'outside' your character's body, and not able to move / one or two moments where I swear bullets were able to catch me through multiple buildings / picking up medkits or boosters can be a little less than straight forward)

Overall 7 / 10.

Maybe some might disagree with my score, but there are a couple of reasons.

1. This is my first time finishing it therefore I have no idea what difference there is between my extended cut ending, and the previous one. This one was fine in explaining the future of the galaxy post my decision (destruction).
2. I played all the DLC during this play through. Leviathan has a lot of important information regarding the story, why you see the child, and the origin of the Reapers that is is madness it wasn't present in the full game.

Mass Effect 3 9/10

And I got the "perfect" Renegade ending with Shepard surviving. Thankful about that as dying just wasn't my femshep's style. Good news for Liara my love;p Although I did lose some people along the way. Legion..why?!?!?

Max Payne 3

My first ever Max Payne game. I had seen the original played on the Playstation many years ago but never played myself. I understood the basic character and game play.

I found Max Payne 3 overall good fun and would score it a solid 8/10.

Pros:
+ Graphically very good, always, with no glitches or bugs*
+ Atmosphere/setting/architecture very good
+ Good weapons
+ Great story
+ Good dialogue
+ Great sound track adding to atmosphere and intensity. The Theme tune Tears by Health, is a great track.
+ Nice "sandwich" style story, i.e. snippet of the ending and then a retelling of the story as to how he got to that point, before finishing the final mission.

Cons: (some of these are minor and quite picky)
- Very linear
- Reliance on bullet time for a lot of sections
- Two parts of the game were a bit annoying and kept having to repeat the section to get passed it, but not a major issue.
- Towards the latter parts, it became more lonely with less character involvement and the story became weaker.
- Continuing the above point, the story seemed to die down unexpectedly to an ending that really could have been better, and more climatic for such an action hero as Max Payne.
- Weapon system annoying. Randomly drops guns and managing which one you want is annoying at times.

* The game locked up on me only twice in the whole time I played it and had to quit to desktop and reload it. No big deal.

I think overall it's a great game and well worth a play. Took me about 3-4 big plays at it to complete, a few hours a time. I'm guessing 15 hours ish. To be honest, the linear approach doesn't bother me that much as I don't like FPS games to be too much about exploring and what not. I like it to the point and simple, fun shooting.

I think the game play would get boring if it were not for the amazing cut scenes and story line this game brings to the table. Some would argue too many cut scenes but I liked them. Felt like you were playing a film, like the latest COD games. I played on normal difficulty and found it...well...normal. It was by no means easy, especially not in some parts. Enough of a challenge to be fun for me. Any harder and I can't be bothered as I don't get enough time to play and prefer to complete the games quicker on easier difficulty.

DMC Devil may cry -

First devil may cry i've played since PS2. Took no time at all to get into the controls and the story line.

+Graphically very good, not amazing but enough to feel part of the game
+Huge variety of enemy
+Decent amount of weapons (7 ish)
+Fully customisable (although I finished the game with 20+ unlocks left over!)
+The MUSIC is great (noisia) - i usually play with music in the background, no need here.
+Story line was OK bit weird? but ok.
+Ran VERY smooth (30% usage on my 7970 for 60fps, never lagged, never crashed)

-cheap console port ( i.e. "tip. you can customise your controler settings... ". up/down with arrow keys for selections, etc etc.
-^ TBH this sums up all the con's of this game...
-Never managed to work out how to change gun (@#!@)
-Little things like "back space to continue" my hands never near the backspace -_-

Took approx 9 hours to complete.
Once completed you have the option of a new "difficulty" which changes the enemy mechanics, sounds interesting although same story - pass for me, though some might like?

Overall - 7/10

So cheap console port, but runs ridiculously well with very nice graphics? Maybe lacking menu functions might be more apt if you were using KB+M.

This might be how you changed gun, not sure though -

Back space to continue a cut scene, must rate down a game based on something like that?

Hitman Absolution - 7.5/10

+ Evolved gameplay
+ Decent-ish graphics
+ Innovative kills
+ Great story
+ Great voice acting
+ Great facial animation
+ Great characters
+ Very versatile, is one of the best third person shooters out if you want it to be
+ Kane & Lynch appear in the game!
+ Challenges make the single player replayable
+ Contracts mode is innovative and very, very replayable
+ Extreme amounts of replayability
++ Awesome plot twist!

- The last two levels were very anti climatic, felt rushed
- A.I are pathetically stupid even on purist, you can hide behind cover with your head quite clearly sticking out and they wont see it.
- Performance wasn't great. Had a fair bit of slowdown when looking in certain directions on some of the levels, 1440x900, and that wasn't even on Ultra settings... 7950 on an 'AMD evolved' title.
- Tessellation didn't seem to do anything at all
- Shoddy implementation of V-sync, using it made the slowdowns even worse
- FXAA was near useless, 8x MSAA is the only setting that looked any different to having both AA methods turned off

Most of the cons were just down to bad performance and mediocre graphics, as an actual game though it's fantastic, just feels as though it should be played on console though due to frusterating performance on occasion.

Half Life 2 + Episode 1 & 2 with Cinematic mod 12.21.

8 /10. Very good.

+ amazing effort by the modder
+ brings to life what is imo a good game (despite this, it's one that still doesn't rank among my highest titles), and makes it something more memorable (otherwise it wouldn't hold any replay value for me)
+ very good graphics and sound overhaul
+ noticeable improvement since last revision I played (10 iirc)

- probably not fair to level this at the modder, but getting off ladders can be quite tricky
- feel a little mean for saying this, but although most of the graphics have been updated well, there are some that are clearly lagging behind (obviously a work in progress)

Far Cry 3

+ Beautiful
+ Great characters (Vaas is my favourite villain of 2012)
+ Fantastic controls, physics, generally fun to play

- Forgettable map
- Very little inclination to play once story is over

8/10. Really enjoyed this game.

Skyrim: At first I was a bit anxious as the first thing I noticed was the leveling system had been ported over from Oblivion when I felt Bethesda would have been better lifting the one they used in Fallout 3 but I noticed there were some tweaks and they lost useless level ups like running and jumping which made leveling up more balanced. I was also very disappointed that they dropped custom spell making, this was one of my favorite features in Oblivion and on the matter of spells Bethesda had also got rid off touch spells. So for the first couple of days I was playing it I felt Skyrim was just another Elder Scrolls game that had been dimmed down even more to make it console friendlier.

However despite what Bethesda had removed I have to say what they did produce was very, very good. Fantastic art work, good production and solid gameplay which all made for an enjoyable game and by the end I didn't feel I was missing out on anything as they game has a ton of replay value.

8.5/10

Bulletstorm

First thoughts were reflecting on just how much it looked like an exemplar of what I dislike about console games and how they're lazily ported to PC. First play lasted about 20 minutes before I turned it off and thought that would be it for me.

Then, one empty evening when my wife went out and I didn't want to wait 90 minutes for any of my unplayed Steam games to download, I gave it another go.

Maybe it was this approach to it, but when I just let myself enjoy it without getting hung up on the poor graphical options, the less-than-optimal FOV for PC, the glowing objective markers, the simplistic combat, hackneyed plot and toilet humour dialogue... it was actually pretty good fun.

And it remained pretty good fun for most of the 8 or 9 hours it took to finish it over the weekend. Silly, repetitive, gratuitous, yes - but definitely fun. By the end I was actually appreciating that this game made no attempt whatsoever to take itself seriously, that it was clearly glorying in the hammy over-the-top scenery chewing of its characters and the silliness of its plot points.

By almost no measure I usually would think of could I argue that it's a good game, but at the same time I'm glad I chose it to blast away some idle moments on a slow weekend.

Based on how good I think it is reflecting on all the elements that make it up: 2.5/10
Based on how much fun I actually ending up having with it despite this: 7/10

Wholeheartedly agree (I'd maybe give it an extra .5), I thought it was fantastic fun and really enjoyed it. So many ways to give your enemies a grisly end! :D

Hmmm... perhaps. Hard game to rate. Perhaps I'm a little ashamed of myself for enjoying it so much

I mean, you have to kick open a little armour hatch to shoot some enemies in the backside... and win an achievement called "fire in the hole"... really?! :)

But yeah, it was fun. :D

Max Payne 3

+ Graphically it is top notch
+ Decent story
+ Fantastic musical score
+ Great having the original voice actor back for Max
+ Some great set pieces
+ Brings back a feeling of nostalgia

- Controls can be a bit clunky at times
- Even on lower difficulties you don't get much bullet time
- Too much need for cover
- Some of the cutscenes are a little long in the beginning
- Load times are long if you decide to skip the cutscenes

Was pleasantly surprised about this one. Once I got over the fact that it is one long interactive movie I actually quite enjoyed it. Can't wait for Max Payne 4.

8.5/10

ME2
10/10

Despite the hate people gave the game for being dumbed down compared to the first one I loved it and I actually felt sad when the game finished as I was enjoying it so much.

Also that gets added to my under 10 games I've completed in the last 10 years list.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow (Xbox 360... I know)

10/10

I have played through this game so many times, 100% completion, complete it about twice a year. I LOVE it, I read an article about the new one potentially coming to PC so setup my 360 again just to play this lol.

DMC - PC

8.5/10

Great gameplay, great graphics, really enjoyable. Little short and not much to want me to play it again.
