The last game you completed, and rating.

Were there any bits that you really got stuck on and had to persevere with and resist quitting?

Final boss was the only place I really got stuck for any significant amount of time. It took me around 3, maybe 4 hours to beat her.

I never thought about quitting as it never felt unfair. When I was losing, it always felt fair and it was just a skill issue on my part. Everything can be dealt with, it never felt rng or unavoidable. Final boss for example, once I had got phase 1 down, I could consistently get through it, taking little or no damage, same with phase 2. Even phase 3 which is the hardest, started with "wtf am I supposed to do" but by the time I finished, I could deal with it, nothing felt unfair, just needed practice and to get the pattern down.

Resident Evil 4 - 8/10. Enjoyed it, nothing fancy but generally a good game. The remaster was well done and brought back memories of playing the original on GameCube.
I have the dlc as Ada to play next so I'm looking forward to that.

I know I am late to the party, but this afternoon I've just completed Read Dead Redemption 2 (or at least, finish the main story and got to the Epilogue). And now I am cutting onions.
What an absolute masterpiece of a game, and even though the main story is done, I know I probably rushed it and there's still tons of content left to enjoy. 10/10.

Disco Elysium.....bit late to the party, but for £3 on Steam I couldn't resist. It is a great game, very funny, well written and thoroughly enjoyable.

I'd give it 8.5/10 given it's low cost and entertainment value.

Borderlands 3. Just the base game in co-op, not all the DLCs yet. I enjoyed it. A lot of people did not like the story compared to BL2. I did not care for it either, but the gunplay is mega-fun, and I'm looking forward to BL4

8/10

Horizon Forbidden West and the Burning Shores DLC.

My PC is getting a bit old, which made some battles with numerous enemies on screen annoying but I really enjoyed both.

8/10

God of War Ragnarok 8/10 my game of the year for 2024, took me about 30ish hours to finish tho I had my fill in that time so I doubt I'll go back in to mop up the remaining side content.

I've been stuck on Lady Ethereal for two days so I had to put it on story mode to save my sanity. I'll give it another crack on normal mode sometime in the future for the achievement.

Nine Sols (九日) - 9/10

I would have given it 10 but the difficulty was too much for my patience but kudos to them for giving an option to adjust the damage taken/given so I was able to finish the story. Now I'm fully versed in the mechanics, I immediately started it again as I enjoyed it so much. Beats Hollow Knight if you ask me.

Flatout 1 8.5/10 has a few flaws but considering how old the game is the physics are really good considering its age a lot of fun. its been years since ive played it can see where wreckfest got its inspiration from.

Stalker 2. First 40 hours 9/10 then the last few missions for me really left a sour taste. Overall i would still recommend it.

Neon white. Finished main story, will go back for red medals now (beat dev times).

8/10. No option that I can see to skip the talking, fine on first run, but is annoying when redoing a mission.

I picked both of these up for my 10 year old son on Switch and played along on the PC with him. Similar to HL2 that I completed recently - old but gold! I know most will have already played these games but if you havn't then give them a shot, they still look and play brilliantly. I love the sarcastic humor delivered by the game too!

Portal 1 - 8.5/10
Portal 2 - 8.5/10

Ghost of Tsushima
8/10

Totally rips off the Assassin's Creed series but, unlike those games, I didn't give up on this through boredom before completing the main story. Lovely graphics.

LAD: Infinite Wealth
Kind of the pure distillation of the Yakuza series. In gameplay terms, anyway. I think this is the best take on turn-based JRPG style combat I've come across and takes what they did in LAD a few steps further. It feels active, tactical, and engaging even after hundreds of battles. The jobs and skill inheritance systems feel really satisfying and easy to get to grips with. QoL improvements from earlier RGG games all over the place. Fun mini-games, and a really addictive game-wthin-a-game game that feels too big to call a mini-game. Typically good sub-stories.

I even got into the whole natsukashii part of Kiryu's memories. It had me feeling nostalgic for the journey I'd been on with ol' Uncle Kaz and other characters, even though it's only been a couple of years since I played them :)

The main plotline is typical of RGG in some ways. Twists you see coming from a mile off. Betrayals you see coming even further away. Swings from earnestness to goofiness and back again. I liked a lot of the characters (not all), and Ichiban remains a ridiculously soft-hearted dope who's more endearing that he has any right to be. But, there's at least one element of the main plot that really makes no sense. Led by a villain who also didn't feel like they made much sense. Or was fleshed out in any way. They even point out later on how much of what this strand of plot rested on made no sense. A whole load-bearing part of the story felt to me like it was bolted on becasue they just needed a villain in a particular place and didn't have any better ideas. I dunno.

Anway, the game still rocks for all that. Hyper-additctive right up til the end. 9/10.

More please, RGG!! :)

Cyberpunk 2077: 9/10
I am super jaded as far as stories and characters go, but CP was genuinely novel, interesting and thought provoking.
Be-a-u-tiful design and graphics, the only things that break the immersion are the decidedly last-gen animations and bike physics.
Way better than Witcher3!
