The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

[shrug]I've only really seen her in Game of Thrones. I just never found her character convincing in the way that, say, Lady Stark or Cersei were. Maybe it's G.R.R.Martin's fault. But I'm not a fan of Sean Bean's acting either, so I may just be a bit fussy when being sold my imaginary characters.

I think (hope) he was joking.

I don't really know who would be good as Ellie. Some relative unknown ideally.

HBO's casting is pretty solid usually. GOT was always pulp entertainment and the hammy actors were appropriate.

It's a shame the series wasn't made closer to the time of the original game, as Kaitlyn Dever would have been perfect in my opinion.

She currently plays Eve Baxter on Last Man Standing.

There isn't much difference in the 'look' of Joel, or Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series of games. There was talk of that being a movie. But it never came off. I'd have liked to have seen Nathan Fillion play Joel, though he might be on the older side these days.

Fillion is too much of a pretty boy...and he's also too, Nathan Fillion. Joel is a dark, twisted character.

Matthew McConnaughy has that side in his locker, and the intensity, and southern drawl (think True Detective). Although I still would prefer a relative unknown.

I think relatively unknowns for both would be best as it's the story thats good enough that fans will watch anyway, but I think HBO will want at least 1 "star" in either of the lead positions just for PR value to non-gamers who haven't heard of TLOU before.

Agree on Fillon. I like him but he's pretty typecast. I could see Anson Mount as Joel.

I think he looks the part and would be a "known" quantity for HBO to match with a newcomer for Ellie. I liked the idea of Dever but at 24+ by the time filming starts I think she's just too old for the role now, which is a shame as 5 years ago she'd have been perfect.

Bella is a crap choice IMO, and hideous to look at
Why are you concerned about a young girls looks. Give the girl a break! :)
Whilst she didn't spring to mind when I think of an actress to play Ellie, she seemed like she could probably hold her own acting-wise, having just watched all of Game of Thrones over the last month or so again.
Pedro should be good if he gets a beard going. I would be hoping for a Troy Baker-style voice if possible.

If your big concern about a Last of Us TV show is that 13 year old Ellie isn't going to be sexy enough, you should definitely call someone. Maybe stop hanging around school playgrounds as well.

It isn't about being sexy (interesting that your brains went there!), but I've noticed the trend in general to pick the most god awful looking actors and actresses these days. Ellie is objectively 'cute' and Bella is objectively quite homely and has a completely different face.

I'm currently watching The Unicorn about a father raising two daughters after the mother dies. And I was thinking the older daughter, Ruby Jay, looks a heck of lot more like Ellie then Bella, even though she's already 16 she looks younger and would have been a better cast if this show goes into multiple seasons and needs to show an older Ellie like in TLOU2
