The Last of Us (HBO, from Creator of Chernobyl) - No game spoilers please

Didn't like the look of the actress playing Ellie.

Nick Offerman!

Environments look nice

**** myself when i saw a flying dragon! Then breathed a sigh of relief when i realised it was another HBO show.

Fingers crossed they do a good job.

Yeah, the first game was universally loved whilst the 2nd game made some very "strong" story decisions which almost seemed to be designed to split the original fanbase. I didn't play the 2nd one as I didn't like the story choice that NaughtyDog made but, as always, fans on both sides took things way too far plus the studio were quite vocal on Social Media which inflamed the situation more than calming it. I'm a huge fan of the voice actors involved and it was a shame to see all their hard work trashed by so many because of the story, rather than because people thought they did a bad job.

I believe this TV show is based solely around the 1st game.

Huge fan of the first one, but hate what they did to Ellie in the 2nd and ofc Joel. Buuuuuut, it was still a great game.

So as a non PlayStation person who knows there's 2 games based on this...
What's the deal?
Zombies? Apocalypse? Coming of age in a zombie apocalypse?
Not strictly zombies no, same way the likes of the infected in 28 days later aren't true zombies, more a fungal type virus that mutates its host that makes them aggressive, funnily enough its kind of based on a real life fungal virus that infects insects turning them into essentially zombies. Its just lumped into the zombie genre. The theme of the 1st game is more a focus on Joel and Ellie's relationship, essentially a man learning to care about humanity again and be a father to a child 20 years after losing his biological daughter. As to the 2nd game, some played it and enjoyed it, some didn't, others like myself never bothered as the game wasn't made for them - all in all I would 100% recommend the 1st just to experience an outstanding story and game.

That's a great summary, but SPOILERS!

I know the game has been out years, but the show is new.

That looks 100% better than the original teaser they dropped, hell they've sold me on it.Tbh though, if they stick to the themes of the 1st game they can't go wrong and it's bound to be a massive hit.

Looks much better and can see the set pieces from the game - initial outbreak etc.

Here's where i get flamed, the actress looks nothing Ellie, although they have tried to capture a similarity with PP. I see she is from GOT, which i have never seen, but is the actress disabled in anyway?

Either way, those that have seen her work, do you think she will be a good Ellie? I'm really looking forward to this.

Looks good. Can't wait..Never played the game nor know about the story.
Do yourself a favour and play the bloody game! I have no words to describe how amazing it is. Seriously a life without having played TLOU is shameful. When the PC version drops. PLAY IT!

With regards to the series. Trailer looks fantastic! Really give me the chills. Seems to capture the atmosphere and the substance of the game perfectly, but the game was basically a movie driven game anyway but I don't care, still going to watch it!

Honestly I think Last of Us is a better game to watch than play, I found the 'gameplay' pretty dull but the world and story are great. I ended up watching a let's play instead. The second one even more so probably due to the decisions they made, it doesn't feel like a game to me.

Does not work as Ellie for me at all - PP isn't a natural fit but is talented enough to make it work like with Robert Downey Jr playing Sherlock.

Latest trailer looks incredible though.

Yeah visually and theme/story wise it is up there with the best games ever made but the gameplay just bores me and I can't get into it - I mostly just watched other people play it.

Why do you think she's disabled? Poor woman wasn't exactly blessed with good looks, but she's not disabled, no.

Acting wise, she's been fine in the few things I've seen her in

Yeah, thought it was awesome seeing some legendary scenes in that. More so the explosion in the street and the christmas lights in the town before they set off. Texas was it?

Is this only going to be on HBO's streaming service, or others for next year? Shame it's 2023. I'd love to have gotten into this for November/December.

They've got the original Marlene in this who also was the voice of Alyx in Half-Life 2 and the actress that played Nariko in Heavenly Sword.

Apparently even Ashley Johnson is going to be in two episodes alongside Troy Baker...
