The Last Of Us

Yay! I'm feeling quite tempted to do an Uncharted 1-3 playthrough over the next few weeks, to get myself in the mood for TLoU and to hopefully make the time go quicker! Last time I played them all was when U3 was released, I think.

Naughty Dog have said that TLoS will be the first game to allow you to start playing with only 50% downloaded, and it will finish the rest while playing.

Why they have only started this now is beyond me.

This 'streaming' feature is coming to the PS4 and I think The Last of Us is going to be the only title to use it on the PS3

I wonder how they're doing it, on the basis that downloaded games on the PS3 have to install. I presume they've split it into two files, the first is the actual game (and 50% of the overall download size) and then it downloads a second file in the background or something.

Doesn't seem to be available (yet) in Europe, no sign of the pre-order on PSN although it'll probably be a silly price anyway.

Your probably right. Its probably just like PC games [WoW, Diablo 3 etc] the games are locked to low resolution textures around 50% then say if you zone into a area and some parts are missing it will download the required files.

So I bet its just that. 50% of the download is the entire game with low res textures and the rest just gets downloaded in the background or called upon when needed :).

Screenshot I found of the supposed game settings screen:

If it's real, it's a good sign that you can turn off the extra prompts, Listen Mode, tags etc.

I think I'm pretty much running out of TLoU stuff I can post now, but I did just find this:

The first two minutes are just from one of the earlier trailers so you can skip that, but the rest seems quite interesting.

Another instalment of TLoU Development Series was released this morning, part 3 looks at crafting, resources and the choices the player will have in-game:

I'm just far too excited, that's all. I think it'd probably be in my better interests to start avoiding stuff now though, otherwise I'm probably going to end up having watched most of the game across various videos! Might skip most of the gameplay in the livestream this Friday and watch the Q&A.

That's the intention, anyway...

Same as :). Pretty pleased Ive ignored every piece of media on this bar that original teaser with the ants etc...

ps3ud0

I've seen no more than the very first teaser trailer. Are you jealous? :D

Haha, nah I'm actually quite glad I've kept up with it, most games I just see the odd preview or video here and there and it's great not knowing too much about it when the game releases, but I don't think my experience is going to be spoiled any by what I've seen so far. It's not like I've been watching huge chunks of gameplay, most of it is just short clips, or the devs (or Troy and Ashley) talking about the game. Anything major I'll avoid, and I won't be playing the demo either.

3 weeks 2 days!

That's fair enough. But I'm just as interested in the animation and gameplay tech as the story, so for me any short clip is a spoiler simply if it shows the character movement. I have caught the odd few frames of gifs when scrolling through GAF, but I've managed to look away very quickly! I hear the animation work is stunning... I'm very excited!

It does look very technically impressive indeed, seems like they've been building off the back of a lot of the stuff they developed for Uncharted.

I can easily imagine this will end up being the most technically impressive game the PS3 gets.

Either this or god of war ascension, story and gameplay aside that game is straining the ps3 to the max and looks stunning

Continuing my obsession with this game, I see Amazon now have the official hardcover strategy guide (with firefly pendant keyring) and the official art book. I never normally care about extra stuff like this, why am I so tempted now?!

I've just pre-ordered this too, as well as the game. I wanted the Ellie edition but it seems to be a GAME exclusive and I'm not buying anything from them, I'd have settled for the Joel edition if Amazon were selling it but it seems like it's a ShopTo and Tesco exclusive. Last time I bought something from Tesco it came about two weeks after they dispatched it and I don't have a ShopTo account nor do I wish to open one so I've had to make do with the standard edition + Sights & Sounds pre-order bonus.

I might pick up that art book you were talking about as well but only after it comes down in price a bit. Can't wait for this now. :)
