The Liverpool Club Thread. **No Spoilers**

When you wonder why someone is being stupid, consider the personal consequences to them vs the benefit of doing what they wanted. In this case Salah got to go to his brothers wedding and the consequences are... nothing.
He's almost certainly missing the Leicester game for a start, you know a big game against the league leaders. Being a footballer doesn't make you completely immune from Covids effects either, Dybala was having covid related problems for over a month when he got it. I'd be furious with him if I were Liverpool.

He's likely to miss the Leicester game. That might have a big impact on the result and our unbeaten home run.

I've seen this debate on twitter. In what other industry would it be ok to tell an employee not to go to a family members wedding just in case they get sick and can't go into work? I'm not saying it was fine for him to go to the wedding but it's not as straight forward as people make it out to be.

The one where you're paid £200,000 a week to be available to play?

People couldn't even go to funerals this year, Liverpool are well within their right to tell him not to go.

I'm pretty sure most businesses would have grounds for disciplinary action if a member of staff, who was off work with COVID, was caught on video not wearing a mask at a party.

Part of the remuneration surely factors that in, maybe it doesn't.
I suspect not. Players contracts will have conditions that prevent them from doing any activities that seriously risk their physical health - skiing, riding a motor bike etc. Does that stretch to going to a family members wedding during a pandemic? I very much doubt it.

Yes, that one. Liverpool can ask him not to go but they cannot force him, just like your employer couldn't tell you what you can and can't do in your free time, providing you're not breaking any laws.

We're also jumping to the assumption that he was told he couldn't go too. I wouldn't be massively shocked if he was given permission. Klopp has shown a very human side when dealing with players and I know circumstances are different however he previously allowed Salah & Mane to travel to Africa for the African Player of the Year awards the day before a game and last season allowed VVD time off from training to meet the Dutch Royal family. This is part of the reason why players want to play for him.

Unless there was a legal requirement for him to do so, in whatever country he is, then they wouldn't. I don't know where Salah was and what the laws are there though.

edit: I've just read your post again. Are you saying he tested positive before the wedding? I assumed he has just tested positive and these images were from before the test.

No, he was tested after the wedding so the assumption, I and everyone else is making, is that he caught it at the wedding.

I didn't know how to word it but I was trying to say, if your average Joe rings his boss and tells him he has COVID after attending a wedding then fine. If a video then surfaces of that member of staff not wearing a face mask and ignoring COVID guidelines, I'm 100% sure that member of staff would face disciplinary action for missing work.

I'm pretty sure Klopp would've allowed him to attend the wedding, I'm also sure he would've reminded him to wear a mask or expected him to do so. At the very least, there's now going to be a trust issue between them.

Probably yes? I'm not sure why it wouldn't

Bit of a difference between giving your player time off training and letting them go to a wedding with people packed in like sardines and no masks during the middle of a pandemic.

First part, because even footballers have human rights. It's shocking I know because they're not human, are they? I'd be stunned if legally there was anything the club could do to prevent him from going to the wedding, even if they hadn't given their blessing. All this assumes that there were no laws around gatherings and mask wearing where he was.

And yes, I know there's a difference hence why I said that  The point I was making is that Klopp has previously shown a willingness to allow players time off for special ocassions, even if it disadvantaged the team. I would not be shocked if Salah had asked him and he was given permission to go to the wedding.

Ok, your initial post read that he went to a wedding with covid. I absolutely agree with you on that last point about the club would have, at the very least, told him if he goes to take extra precautions etc. However from a legal point of view, unless he's broken any specific terms of his contract or the law, there's very little the club can do. Again, I have no idea what the guidelines are in the country Salah was in though. Was wearing a mask indoors a requirement? If so then the club could fine him without any issue however if Salah hasn't broken any laws, he could challenge any fine he was given and win.

Was going to post above, so possibly now Henderson down

If we retain title with all these injuries were getting if they keep up at this rate it will be a bigger achievement imo
