The Liverpool Club Thread. **No Spoilers**

I'm struggling to think of a more unlucky footballer than Gomez. You get a lot of players that are just injury prone - they have a particular weakness in a certain area and will pick up lots of little injuries which slowly have knock-on effects to surrounding muscles and joints. Gomez has had 4 completely unrelated major injuries by the age of 23.

Knee injury he picked up on England duty. Unlikely to be back before the end of the season apparently. VVD might though!

I actually think now that we have some cover that I'd be ok with VVD not returning before the end of the season, I wouldnt want to risk any further injury to him or how damaging that might be for his career, to rush him back

Most of our current problems stem from players out of position. We'd be far better off with any actual defenders at the back to allow Henderson and fabinho to play in midfield. No idea why klopp keeps persevering with no sign of improvement.

We have to play one of them next week or it surely defeats the point in signing them in the first place. Fab with Kabak would be my choice. He seems to play either CB position, is quick and seems to be good on the ball. GEt Henderson back in midfield!

We're missing the legs and bite from our midfield currently. Also, Thiago is obviously a good player but he's just not settled or integrated at all yet.

Awful. I saw some twitter rumours about this the other week but assumed it was bs because nothing was ever confirmed but it appears the news was kept private until after the funeral, which was yesterday.

Obviously a different situation but I remember when Benitez's dad passed away while we were playing the club world cup in Tokyo and he too wasn't able to return for the funeral.

Horrible news. Too many recently who haven't been able to be with their parents/loved ones recently at the time of passing or attend their funerals, going to be very difficult for a lot of people to have to process this grief in such an unnatural way now.

Barcelona must be really hardup, seen on the news that they are considering not playing Coutinho for the rest of the season because if he plays 5 more games then they owe Liverpool another 5m Euros.

Surely Gini should look at that and think twice about signing for a club in such dire financial straights.

Once Messi leaves they'll have more cash available. They've become so dependent on him that they're paying him absolutely mental money - his last contract was reported at €70m per year + image rights + a €100m signing on fee.

And we're not actually owed anything by Barca anymore. Barca's accounts confirmed that we sold the outstanding payments to a financial institution. I suspect it was simply down to the fact that we wanted the cash up front when signing Alisson, Fab etc in 2019 rather than being concerned that Barca won't pay but who knows.

Sounds like a pretty smart move on our part to sell off that debt then!

In hindsight, maybe but I'd question the story about Barca not playing Coutinho anymore. The chances of them selling him given the state of the market, his wages and performances, are slim so if not this season, he'll play those games next season and the clause will be triggered.

As I said, I doubt the possibility of this came into our thinking when we made the decision. I suspect it was a straight forward financial decision - how much of the Coutinho money would we lose by selling the debt vs how much would we save on the 2019 transfers by being able to pay larger up front payments.

Yes, I completely agree. I'm sure we didn't expect a club like Barca to have significant financial issues. But either way, it shows the importance of managing cashflow well.

Fabinho out again :/

We were linked with a CB from Braga in January - just being linked with us caused him to break his ankle last week.

Tbf looked fine until miscomm between Alisson and him. Alisson dealing with his 438th CB combination in 7 months.

(And either of those two would have likely gotten eaten alive in other situations)
