The Liverpool Club Thread. **No Spoilers**

Wonder if Robertson could play at CB kind of like how Azpilicueta has done for Chelsea.
He's played in a back 3 for Scotland. The problem with all our CB options right now is they all need a proper, experienced, dominant CB alongside them. If you had a VVD or Matip then you could pick any of Robertson, Phillips, Kabak, Davies, even Wijnaldum alongside them and it wouldn't be a big issue.

The issue we're having with long straight balls at the moment isn't simply down to having a high line or even a lack of pace at the back. The biggest problem is we don't have somebody at the back that knows when to attack the ball, when to drop off or when to push up and play offside.
Could Davies actually be fit? Phillips has played well so it’ll likely be him and Fab.
I actually think Phillips might have played ahead of Kabak had he been fit yesterday. Hopefully him and Davies will be fit at the weekend but there's plenty of time still for someone's leg to fall off.

I know that an injury crisis like this is almost unheard of, but it does make Klopp’s decision not to replace Klavan or Lovren very foolish. We’d been relatively injury free for two to three seasons, statistically one or two players at least would pick up a serious, season long injury. And relying on Joel ‘sick note’ Matip as backup was never a good idea.

This argument winds me up a little bit. We did replace Lovren but rather than replacing him with Kabak (the CB we were being linked with), we replaced him with Fabinho by signing an extra CM in the summer.

I was always on-board with that decision in the summer but after seeing how Kabak has performed since arriving, I'm even more in agreement with that decision. Had we signed Kabak and let Wijnaldum leave we'd have been in a worse position than we have been this season. The only difference would have been, instead of having Wijnaldum in midfield and Fabinho at CB, we'd have had Fabinho in midfield (because we've had loads of injuries there) and Kabak as our main CB.

We can get away with a high line, 9 times out of 10, as long as the more defensive minded midfielder drops back to make a back three which allows the two centre backs to spread out and cover more of the pitch. That hasn't happened since Henderson joined Fabinho at the back although in all fairness, it did look like Klopp was trying to address that against Sheffield United by having one of the fullbacks stay back when the other bombed forward. VVD marshalling the backline just makes it even more effective as highlighted by our ridiculous offside record for the past two seasons.

I mentioned after the game yesterday, I wonder if a back 3 is an option for us. You could even do it with Wijnaldum alongside two of Kabak, Phillips & Davies, allowing you to put Fabinho back into the holding role. Gini's role would just be as a sweeper and somebody to bring the ball out of the back.

Now that Low has resigned as Germany manager it will be very interesting to see what happens. I know that Klopp loves Liverpool but the chance to manage your national side only comes along once in a lifetime for most.

If I was a Liverpool fan I would be somewhat worried right now.

I'm not worried, if he wants to go and do it I certainly couldnt blame him. Its surely every managers dream to manage their national side and he has more than earned the right to do so. The era of managers staying at big clubs for many many years is gone now so I never really expected him to stay for a huge amount of time. If he wants to go manage Germany then he would go with my gratitude, my blessing and my best wishes. Who we would replace him with I'm not sure, I used to think it would be Gerrard but funnily enough I actually think that winning the title with Rangers has decreased the likelihood that he will follow Klopp rather than increased it.

I think Gerrard will definitely come, but he won't make the Lampard mistake. It's too early for him, and the expectations will be very high after Klopp. He needs to manage another top team in one of the major leagues before he's ready for the Liverpool job. I'm thinking 2025 at the earliest.

So glad Liverpool are on the slide.
They are over rated and without Van Dyke and Henderson utterly ordinary and not to be feared

Thats a bit harsh on the much heralded Alexander Arnold and Robertson, posting record breaking numbers for assists from a defender, or indeed Salah, winner of 3 of the last 4 Golden Boots (and possibly going to win again this year), not sure really that a team which got 99 pts last season and 97 pts the season before could be considered over-rated. Indeed when almost every football pundit on the planet and almost every football manager, with all the centuries of combined football knowledge and experience therein, dont say that they are overrated, its hard to consider them overrated. At least not unless we are going to say that all those pundits, players and managers are liars or less knowledgeable about their sport that we on this forum are :D

Change of form is temporary, class is permanent lol.

they looked a different team last night with Fabinho back in midfield, first time he's been able to play a full game there since last October.

Seeing lots of jibber jabber about us signing Konate from RB Leipzig. If thats true then I guess thats Ben Davies Liverpool career over before it even started ! Lets hope that Konate does better than the last person we bought off Leipzig

Despite the hype, he was never going to be anything other than a 4th or 5th CB choice, for the cup or rare PL games in case of injuries. Unless he shows massive improvements.

Davies? Has he even kicked a ball for us yet? Wouldnt surprise me if he was moved on without ever putting boot to ball in anger

When Naby has been fit and has got a run of games he’s shown what he’s capable of, but it seems he gets a run of games and then inevitably gets injured. I like him, he’s a busy player who gets around the pitch.

I'm still very much in two minds with him, I've seen flashes of stuff from him but then I've also seen games drift him by where he has looked average. For me, for the price paid, he hasnt delivered even when he's been fit, if he had been 20m less then maybe.

Expected to read another Liverpool player had picked up an injury on international duty when I saw this thread had been bumped.

As for Konate, no thanks. He's plagued with muscle injuries and has already missed well over a year in days with injuries, he would end up ruined like Keita.
