The Long Dark - Survival Simulator **No zombies!**

Tried it yesterday after a short absense. Totally revamped inventory menu, can see my character now too. Was last holed up in an abandoned station or factory just lighting a barrel.

This rolls over to 1.0 today including the firs2 chapters of the story mode! Bought this year's ago as EA and only ever really dabbled in it from time to time. Will reinstall tonight!
 
Got a surprise on Twitter in early hours.
Someone had asked about cost of second & following story updates & boss at Hinterland Games said chapters 1-5 are free :eek:

Free as in included in what we have already paid for as in early access? I would have hoped as much anyway surely? Was wondering how they would do it though so glad it's included for us

Free as in not only EA players, but everyone I think.
They could've easily gone all EA on us & said only first or first two were free, but five? :D

Now...the long wait for gog bears to release the installer.... :rolleyes:
 
I had no idea until early hours today that there were even five story releases, had only seen them mention two before.
This is signs of a really good bunch of devs :D
 
Just checked, not out on gog yet & no timer on steam, so probably normal release time.

WINTERMUTE
The episodic story-mode for The Long Dark, WINTERMUTE launches with two of the five episodes that form its Season One.

  • In Episode One: “Do Not Go Gentle”, bush pilot Will Mackenzie (player character) and Dr. Astrid Greenwood are separated after their plane crashes deep in the Northern Canadian wilderness in the aftermath of a mysterious flash of light in the sky. Struggling to survive as he desperately searches for Astrid, Mackenzie comes across the small town of Milton, where he begins to understand the scope of this quiet apocalypse.

  • In Episode Two: “Luminance Fugue”, Mackenzie’s search for Astrid takes him deeper into the savage Winter wilderness. A mysterious trapper may be the key to finding Astrid, but can he be trusted?

    The first two episodes of WINTERMUTE represent approximately 15 hours of gameplay. Episodes Three to Five are included in the price of the game, and will be unlocked for free as they are released.

    Features performances by Jennifer Hale, Mark Meer, David Hayter, and Elias Toufexis (Episode Three), and the music of Cris Velasco.

There's a storm brewing here, had over a dozen lightning/thunder in under a minute.
It's either a sign that the power will go out & I won't get to play or DL, or it's a sign that The Long Dark is about to be reality :eek:

I like how this panned out. I think I grabbed it early 2015 for like £10, and full release is £25-30

Rather than PUBG taking the Mick charging £27 at launch of its EA because they know it will sell and clearly hasn't bothered anyone :D
