The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Prime)

I have no attachment to the books or anything. I don't think it's terrible but it does seem incredibly drawn out and although I love the LOTR trilogy certain things kind of undermine those movies.

I watched up to I think the start of episode 7 but I just gave up at that point. Just completely failed to keep my interest. There are so many good shows about that I would rather watch. Real shame because the LotR trilogy is still some of my favourite fantasy stuff ever and this is just an insult to it. Oh well.

Hmm. I'm kind of liking the differences though it took a while for me to get used to the elves not looking very elf like. I'm thoroughly enjoying this.

I really enjoyed this season. Season one was a bit slow but for a great dose of action and adventure this is pretty good. Better than nothing I would say.

- The way that Galadrial is just written to be slightly unlikable… this sort of ‘low rumbling arrogance’. I get that she’s a flawed hero but unfortunately I never find myself rooting for her. I don’t really see this as being the fault of the actress.

Slightly unlikeable? - You have a talent for understatement Sir. I will grant you that.

I think the casting of Morfydd Clarke (5 foot 3 in heels) as Galadriel, and how the decided to protray Galadriel on screen tells yoiu all you need to know about this show. She isn't elven in any way whatsoever, and far too short, entirely different to Kate Blanchett who has that ethereal energy, Clarke comes off like a primary school teacher whose having a bad day every day. Then to make her an insufferable girl boss, and also as thick as a whale omlette is enough to sink the show on its own, but luckily for Clarke, the show has also failed in every other regard.

MC was completely and utterly miscast, and Amazon's portrayal of Galadriel was even worse - but because of reasons, the show had to be centred around a "strong female character" who was also a girl boss, trouble is she looks absolutey ridiculous in combat, again not MC's fault either.

I think Amazon's "Galadriel" completely encapsulates the total incompetence of the people running and writing for this show.
Cate Blanchetts Galadriel in the original trilogy was thoroughly unlikeable so I’m not finding it so jarring that MC is going down the same route - elf’s inherently are a bit arrogant and embedded up their own rears. Don’t think they are supposed to be liked per se?

No she wasn't. What an absolutely weird take.

I don’t venture in this thread much as I was so far behind watching it. Firstly I don’t get the hate against MC, as @Rimsy said I find her playing it very much like Cate Blanchett anyway. As a non fanboy it seems like there’s a bandwagon going on to blame someone (unsurprisingly a woman) for their dislike of the series as a whole.

I think ROP was great - both seasons and much better than HOTD.

You cannot be serious, go and get your eyes tested, not to mention your ears cleaned out. Jesus Christ, the two portrayals have literally nothing in common, one portaying an ethereal being, wise and graceful, the other an ineffectual, immature, deeply irritating narcisscist with the worst personality this side of the Black Gates.

This has to be the dumbest thing I've read on this forum in 2024.

You could always try reading some of your own posts again? :D I get that you don't like the show, that's fine, everyone should be entitled to have their own opinion. But seriously, why the absolute rabid, seething hatred? It's not healthy you know :) People like different things, it's okay to like or dislike something without frothing at the mouth (and taking the lords name in-vain) :D

Still not got around to finishing the second season yet, but it is very much a big improvement on the first season. And yes, I agree it is better than the second season of HOTD.

Oh please, there's no similarity whatsoever between the two potrayals of Galadriel. Taking the Lord's name in vain? what is this Sunday School.

:D

Get a grip Apex, honestly. Dumbest thing you’ve read on here? You’ve clearly not been around for very long.. Over the top opinions like that are what’s killing this sub-forum, everybody loves a hate-watch nowadays don’t they..

Why don’t you venture into the “Star Wars is dead” thread. That seems more up your street.

Not even a "hate watch", it's moved on to just hate now.

One of the biggest contributors to this thread hasn't watched the show...

IN YOUR OPINION.

Other people clearly have differing opinions as they interpret things differently on galadriel. You going borderline abusive due to someone not seeing her the way you doesn't really reflect to well on your character. Grow up!

I think in almost everybody's opinion as well.
