The previous MBP thread is 1,237 posts long and concerned with the Late 2008 model.

Let's use this thread to discuss the new ones, including the newly promoted MacBook Pro 13 inch.

I'm very interested in the quality of the 15.4" model's screen. Their 2nd generation LED-backlit unit, and with a supposed 60% larger colour gamut - could be something special.

Who's ordered or thinking of ordering one? Which model?

The 13" MacBook Pro is supposed to have the same high quality panel as well.

I ordered my 13" MBP earlier today. It's due to ship in 3 days with an estimated delivery date of 22nd/23rd, so I guess it's coming all the way from Asia.

Nice - it's certainly had the five star treatment.

They said in the keynote that the MBP13 was cheaper than the Unibody MacBook previously was. Is that the case in the UK as well?

I believe so. If not, it's damn close to the price of the then Unibody MacBook. They really went all out on the 13" MBP, which was great as I was more or less happy enough with the Unibody MacBook.

The re-introduction of Firewire was a great touch as well as a 'We messed up big time' apology.

I went for the 2.53Ghz model (as standard) with a remote. :)

Quite exciting that they're able to pack such power into a little laptop like that.

Ive been a long time lurker on these forums, and finally got round to making an account :).

I had ordered the MBP on the 4th before all the new announcements at WWDC came out, however as it was a CTO they upgraded me overnight to one of the new style ones. I have a 15" with 2.8GHz coming for a bargain price as well!

Quick question - how accurate are the shipping and delivery dates on the order form, as I'm away with work for 2 weeks the day before it says it should be delivered :(

I'm going to go for the 13"MBP over the summer with the Student scheme.

Although I'm tempted to go for the 2.53 just for the 4Gb of ram and the slight extra performace.

Good stuff, you're getting a good laptop there for a good price. And welcome to the forums!

From reading around and from my own experience, the delivery dates tend to be a bit pessamistic, they tend to arrive before the estimated date. Good luck!

Check my thread regarding tracking deliveries :)

As Feek says.. they generally over-estimate, so it usually arrives a day or 2 before

Thanks for the welcome, I might have quite a few questions to ask about OSX seen as it will be my first time using it. Slightly off topic how easy is it to install native linux applications to OSX - I do molecular modeling and have some visualisation software that would be very useful to be able to use. Also does OSX have a native FORTRAN compiler (gfortran)?

I've had a read over the specs, previously I was tempted by a low end 24" iMac.

As I already have a 24" screen I'm not seriously tempted by the 13" MBP, especially with the HE discounts it's looking like a very good buy

The optical drive takes up so much space. Sooner we can ditch them on notebooks, the better.

Don't think the world is quite ready for that yet. Probably will be Apple that do it though as they ditched the floppy disk when it was still in regular use.

I'll probably get the 13" MBP to replace my 2007 MacBook but not this year as I need* a Mac Pro this year.

* Yes need. I need to do online video editing and I need Final Cut Studio and something with some power to crunch video without waiting days unlike my PC and Premier Pro!!!
