Shame there was no new hardware but the new MB and MBP are still hot off of the press so I guess it's not that big a surprise

A new spec/design iMac and Mac Pro would have been awesome though

Think of it this way...

Server ..> Desktop ..> Notebook

Add 3 months between rollouts, and that would put a 6 month delay on an i7 notebook after the server chips are shipping.

Given estimates, that is due in February which would (in all realistic guesses) put a potential i7 MBP on the shelves in August. If your a good boy.

Mac Pro with Nehalem in Feb/March if all goes well.

iMac around the same time but only a speedbump which might only warrant a silent update (aka the site updates with new models) as I can't see a media event for the desktops unless Snow Leopard is available for live demo.
 
At the earliest.

If it's not shipping by September 1st (for the back to school season) then you can almost guarantee that it's going to arrive sometime in October as that's a popular release date for pre-holiday season notebook goodness.

Cool. I go back to Uni in October, that would be a perfect time. £2000 with HE discount, I might be able to max out the little laptop. :)

That's kind of what I was trying to raise, at least with the 2nd point. Nothing big to announce now so it was ok to let Schiller handle it whilst Jobs recovers. After he does so, he will be back later during the early Q3 event to show of the big guns (potential iPhone Nano, updated Mini and iMac). At such time, economic situations would have also improved... hopefully!

However, your point regarding Apple's wish to have more control over when and where they do their big product releases is correct. It was something that I had heard in a popular podcast all the way back in October but had forgotten about it until you raised it :)
 
Ah right, yeah but I don't think the economic climate plays as much a part as you think.
 
Yeah, it was earlier on in the year (a week) than planned.

For anyone whos in the know about emeek77 on youtube his new account is "applesoldier", he's already blowing his trumpet about how macworld "blew him away". :rolleyes:
 
The new 17" Macbook Pro is a monster 8GB RAM :cool:

Plus the Mac Box Set looks like a half decent deal.

Will watch the keynote video later on today.
 
Just noticed a few things:
1. No FW400 - this will annoy people with MIDI interfaces, you can get a 800-400 cable, I have one but still it's annoying!
2. Pricing up a new MBP is the same price as a 8 core Mac Pro.. ~£2,500
3. You have to not forget to take two mini-DVI converters to do customer presentations.
 
Wow, how unexciting was that :/

Still, I suppose the whole point of them pulling out of future Macworld expos is so that they can release products to their own schedule rather than when people expect them to.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see an Apple event before the end of Feb to actually announce something good.
