THE MAGNIFICENT 7: BIG DISCOUNTS ON GRAPHICS CARDS!!

Finally found some time this afternoon to install the Strix into my rig.
Had to remove the custom CPU water loop due to the shear size of the card (Phantek Enthoo m-atx case)

did some limited testing in game (GTA V & Project Cars 2), temps never going above 65 deg C. A massive improvement from the FE card

It's a hard one with a new nvidia release imminent but there's a lot of uncertainly on performance to price/availability etc. I'll be miffed if I eventually get my 70TI then they release the new 60/70 that's better but around the same price that I paid :D

Will be looking to move to 1440 screens and a new PC later this year too so don't want to have to upgrade GPU again anytime soon.

EDIT: No, I'm local to them so I've gone collection only/pay on pick up, hence if anything pops up here or elsewhere I can just buy it.

theres a new gen out in h1?

Got my 1080TI sat next to me in the office - Just watching the clock until I can go home and shove it in my rig :p :D

Most appreciated, ordered myself a 1070 to replace my ageing 680. I was looking at them on black Friday but never got round to clicking checkout, then Christmas then boom the prices go mental. Good on you for letting them go to existing customers when you could probably get more from others.

Now lets hope my (equally) ageing [email protected] can get the most out of it, as I'm too busy/lazy for a full rebuild at the moment.

Well Im still thinking, Is it worth to buy 1080Ti now, if new cards are coming after March 2018? Prolly not. What do you think ?

True. If past releases are anything to go by it'll be the 1180 first, then the 1170/60 a couple weeks after... then a longer pause and (gaming) Titan, then another short(ish) pause. Obviously the pause between the Titan and the Ti must be short enough to really wind up some Titan users for maximum lulz... then the Ti gets released. The Ti is indeed 6+ months after the first releases normally.

The flip side is that the 1180 will probably be comparible to/out-perform the 1080ti, with better features.

So if a person is more concerned with buying (current-gen) "Ti performance", and not actually specifically looking for a "Ti" card, then the 1180 is an option.

And the release of the Titan makes the 80ti look like great value when it arrives.

If you want Ti performance next gen, then yeah the 80 card is a great option. But, it would kill me to pay for it knowing that the Ti card was coming along in a few months.

Just bought the 1080. I don't think I've ever spent so much for one thing ever (well, other than car insurance). I'm sure something is going to happen and I'll find the card at something like £300 or something :S

Essentially you have two distinct release cycles. For those considering an 1180, the next-gen is "just around the corner". For those going Ti-ti-Ti, next-gen is likely ~10+ months away.

So horses for courses. I was never going to buy the Ti, so for me, next-gen is almost here. Thus for me (again), the 1080/1070 makes no sense. I guess the 1080 Ti might still make sense, in that the 1180 probably won't save you more than £100 or so. But you'd get new features, and potentially the 1180 might be a little faster and a little cooler.

All-in-all, with the 1180 being (we think) close at hand, it's hard to justify buying any Pascal card now. But this is all speculation, and gut feeling.

Any reason it can't be Q2 for the 1180/1170?

Don't think it'll take to long for company roadmaps to be leaked . But again don't forget Chinese new year , places shut down for 2-3 weeks . That Nvidia and vendor side , with GDDR6 just going mass produced. Could be wrong and they'll pull it out sooner , but why rush ? Making a killing already with no Competition bar mining...

Damn, finger is hovering over the Ti, but just received AIO unit for my Aorus 1080 ;(

Honestly think @Gibbo has done this to help forum members get that card they couldn't in the new year, rather then clear stock for any new hardware. Normally would be straight up in clues that websites would job all over haha

Unless they somehow know that Navi will be a bust, then they won't want to leave it too long... the longer they leave it, the more people might be tempted to stick it out and see what AMD's next move is.

I know personally for myself, if nV release a new gen in May/June, I won't be worrying about what AMD are going to release in 2019, I'll be jumping ship.

If on the other hand, nV wait till September/October, my reserves of patience kick in again, and I choose to wait a bit longer for Navi...

If you're always wary of something newer or better coming soon and it puts you off buying then you'll never buy anything! If its a good deal and you want it, buy it. Then never look at the price again.

Also if the new cards were coming within the next 3-6 months there would be leaks of engineering samples in shipments, leaked 3d mark scores etc as there always are. So far, nothing. It'l be Q3 as a minimum for any new cards, maybe even next year as there's little competition and everyone is making stacks of cash at the moment from mining prices.
