Quick Network Diagram,
Both Broadband's are online, if one goes down it auto switches to the other without any interruptions. tested this by playing games & disconnecting one no interruption is made.

Can i ask what router/ device your using to auto switch?
We use Draytek 2920's at work, they are ok but been having firmware issues with them lately

You could do it multiple ways , we use these at works
http://www.netgear.co.uk/business/products/security/FVS336G.aspx#tab-techspecs

I just setup multiple gateways on the devices does the job for free
Just requires manual setup once no biggie
I believe mine is netgear gs1024
