As an alternative to Ladywell, which is an excellent option, come off the M60 at J9 onto Parkway A5081 and use the Parkway park and ride. Ten minutes on the tram would give you a 5 minute walk to the stadium.

I notice James Garner is training again with the squad. It is all rather quiet on his front but he was stonking for Forest last season. I think he could be a hidden gem for us this season. Him with De Jong could cover up the mess of slab head.

I’d rather he stuck with forest this season tbh…game time and stability

Our midfield isn't particularly good. Garner is 21 and has a decent level of experience now.

If he's good enough, he'll play. Initials indications are Ten Hag quite likes him.

Sorry another DM link however this is very interesting...check out the video comparing Ajax and Man Utd.

Demonstrates what he is starting to do...and where they are currently at.

I'm slightly wary of being too harsh because of the 'family reasons' thing with Ronaldo.

However, the consensus seems to be that it's a ploy to avoid attending training and going on the tour.

I hope we just get rid of him ASAP now. We do not need the Ronaldo circus undermining preseason and Ten Hag's first few weeks in charge. I don't think he'll be remembered fondly, put it that way.

Ronaldo will be raised by the media in every press conference throughout the tour because they like nothing better than stirring up ****
It’s a shame because the feel good factor and any positives will be overshadowed, and only by getting FDJ across the line, will the Ronaldo saga be tempered.

I've been pretty critical of United in the transfers thread and the whole Ronaldo scenario is further justification for this attitude.

Years ago, no player was bigger than the club, now the club is smaller than the Owners and the players who are now themselves of such poor quality compared to the past. The tables have turned.

Ironically, City are showing United how to run a club! Buying argubaly the best player in the world for peanuts and offloading Sterling for a good fee, as well as their other moves in the market.

Yeah and we're selling Pereira for a profit too.

Also if you think City are buying Haaland for peanuts you don't understand anything.
Oh, enlightened one, tell me what I don't understand please. What have I missed, add-ons?

Compared to £80mill for Maguire the transfer seems like an amazing deal. How much was Sancho? Fred cost £50m didn't he? Pogba?

The broader point was that City is a much better run club, I guess this is a dumb statement too. I guess you'll retort with FFP and dodgy commercial deals.

Just watched Ten Hag's first press conference.

About 9 of the 11 questions were about Ronaldo. Didn't give much away and said he's planning ahead with him etc, but it sounds like he does indeed want to go.

He also said Maguire will stay as captain, but admittedly changing that is tricky at short notice.

I agree. The figures involved in the Haaland deal will be eye watering, it goes beyond transfer fee and wages.

Regardless of that, we're not really in a position to sign him at present.

What's beyond the transfer fees and wages @Robbo? Add-ons, agent fees and "other costs" apparently. All totalling ~£90m.

As we've not heard from @Shamikebab I thought I'd educate myself, this article suggests the total is £85.5m, excluding wages.

That's not much more than we paid for Harry - might even be less as I can't see agent fees or add-ons for that transfer.

The closest like-for-like is Mbappe who cost... £165m? And that was years ago...

Doesn't that make £85.5m a great deal? Even if it's £100m. That's the same price as Graelish. Unsure how they calculate this but these people reckon Haaland has a £135m market value.

Sky certainly think so "When you consider this player on the open market would be going for as much as maybe £100m, that could potentially be a remarkable piece of business for Man City."

"In a normal transfer market, a player of Haaland's ability and age, is probably worth about £150m and Man City are getting him for his £51m release clause.

"But they are also paying the agents' fees, the bonuses, the signing-on fees, which means in total he is costing them £85m - still you would have to say, for a 21-year-old striker who is as good as he is, this is a very good price.

"Compared to what he would go for in a normal transfer market, if he did not have that release clause then they are getting a very, very good deal."

Besides, I'd argue someone 'doesn't understand anything' if they think United aren't being shown up by City.

I would expect the true costs are higher. He's represented by the late Mino Raiola's agency, who are not known for being particularly above board. Speculative on my part, but there will be other large sums involved. The initial fee was low as it was a release clause.

Mbappe's new deal has some unusual circumstances, but he's being paid €100m upfront, and €50m a year, for 3 years. Haaland as you rightly say is on a similar level.

Nobody is suggesting we aren't being shown up by City? However, my original point stands - we couldn't have signed him this summer anyway. I am also not for one second defending any of our deals, we have been a complete shambles the past few years.
