The Manchester United Club Thread **Sponsored by Comedy Central**

I'm unsure if it's been mentioned elsewhere on here but yesterday, beforw the match, Sky put out a 22min interview with ETH. It strikes me as the Glazers trying to take heat away from themselves, we never saw Ole having to do similar, presumably ETH agreed to it.

For what it's worth, ETH came across really well, the club should be in a better place if we give him the tools he needs. As long as we also prep for the future post ETH, ideally post Glazer, although surely they'll never sell their cash cow.

If he is able to drop Maguire and Ronaldo then it will be a success and he can carry on.

Chelsea have done it plenty of times. They have the worlds most expensive keeper on the bench. They wrote off Lukaku after just one season. I can understand from a business view why you are not playing your 80m asset or your most marketable player but at the end of the day the profits come with performance on the pitch.

It's also one of the things that made Sir Alex the manager he was. He knew when to "get rid" and could be ruthless with it. Beckham, Stam, van Nistelrooy, Keane. Anyone that was not cutting it or damaging the team dynamic was shipped out. Clough was actually the best at it but even Pep has shown how it can be done in the modern era. Personally, I'd allow Ronaldo to leave. The distraction he causes is not worth it in football terms and we should be prioritising that over any commercial benefits.
Moving on Ronaldo and dropping Maguire would be a great platform to build on.

Casemiro is a welcome addition. McTominay was still pretty poor last night but swap him out and we maybe we are heading in the right direction. Then we have options to perm with Fernandes, Eriksen and Fred. I'd also be inclined to try and develop Garner but this looks unlikely as he didn't even make the bench.

I watched him interview before he took the United job and his English wasnt the best, he's picked most of the language up really well I think.

He'll be an exceptional manager, cut from similar cloth to pep.

I think his English is actually quite good, it’s more the phrasing is a bit unusual.

Quite a good interview, the Ronaldo question seemed to fluster him the most

It’s tricky really, there’s no easy way to answer questions on Ronaldo and the owners etc, regardless of the truth.

If you hear his ex players talking about Pep, even Lewandski they will tell you they see football completely differently after working with him.

And who is to say that’s not the case with Ten Hag (or a lot of managers).

Pep has a great record and is undoubtedly a brilliant manager but he’s had very good squads at elite clubs that are well run.

Pep has never truly challenged himself in a single job. Has always walked into the best club at the time by a distance or into a club that is the best and richest in the league. As you say, fantastic coach and manager but until he takes on a trickier job I think he can't be thought of amongst the greatest.
