£190k ? He must be one of highest paid defenders in the league, don't think he justifies that recently he has just been OK the 3 at the back suits him doesn't get exposed as much with the lack of pace

So yesterday it was being reported we wanted to keep Maguire but were trying to negotiate a lower salary.

And today: Ruben Amorim has revealed Manchester United will trigger the option of an extra year in Harry Maguire's contract.

Hmm. I don't mind Maguire really, he's done OK.
He’s too slow and lacks enough mobility to play anything other than the centre of the 3. Nothing more than a squad player for me.

This is surely a question of priorities. Whilst I don't rate Maguire, he's solid, has some leadership capability and his lack of pace can be better covered in a 3. Tbh I admire him for knuckling down and getting back in the frame. As it stands he's a better CB than Martinez this season. I suspect Amorim doesn't want to be having to bring in another CB when there are so many holes at WB and CM. Lindelof will go, Evans will go -you let Maguire go and you are down to four CB's if you write off Luke Shaw as permacrocked.

He's been very good over the last year or so. Answered a lot of his critics and worked hard to get back into the team. As Calpol said it would be a big mistake to let 3 CBs leave in the same window, that would leave us with basically Yoro, Martinez and De Ligt. Remains to be seen whether Amorim prefers Mazraoui at RCB or WB long term.

Tells you where the standards have gone, when Maguire is being mentioned being very good and working hard , working hard should be standard

Squad player on lower wage yes , but he is on £190k isn't nowhere near that level , I'd love to see how much he earns compared to others defenders in this league

Only reason he isn't leaving is because Lindelof will be gone and it will cost more replacing Maguire , let's not try to twist it and say he is good enough

He's on £190k, that's a lot of money for a sub. Unless Amorim see him as a starter.
I stand corrected, he started again. Obviously first team rather than a sub. Performing better than De Ligt, makes sense why Amorim wanted to extend his contract.

So. Mainoo wants a contract worth 200k a week. Sell, now.
If Man utd were winning titles/top2/3 and getting into the finals/winning the UCL, then yeah, but we are not a side that can do that yet. Contracts must reflect that. I just hope INEOS dont give in to demands like that.

Edit: Apparently he signed a year or so ago until 2027. Looks like fake news. meh, point still stands

Makes sense, no player should be untouchable.
I agree - we don't want players here just for the money. When Dan James is your best bit of business in 10 years you know something is fundamentally wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'd be gutted to lose Kobbie but if someone want's to pay Caicedo money then good luck.Nacho - less worried as I still think he has an attitude problem - not easily coachable apparently. With Eriksen and Casemiro leaving in the next 6 months we are short of numbers so the squad will need boosting and few of our players will generate any sort of fee.

I guess it is funny that we have to sell our best players whereas our junk is still here on massive wages.

I also guess this is in response to being unable to shift Rashford because understandably no one wants him.

We are slowly becoming Everton but maybe 5 or so years behind that outcome.

No Europe next year is going to hurt us even more.

Just the news you want to hear after the Liverpool game. Must be a massive boost to player morale.......

This is how it is at 95% of clubs. Unless you are an absolutely world class player, every player has a price. For too long United players have known that their mediocrity will be tolerated and ever rewarded in most cases. That has to stop. No player is bigger than the club and the sooner players get that into their heads the better.

You want a better run club don't you? Well this is how you get it. Players shouldn't consider themselves made when they make the United first XI. They should damn well know that for the majority of players the only way is down after being here but they should be fighting tooth and nail to keep their play and justify their position at the club.

We've been paying salaries that suggest we are winning the CL/PL on the regular and have a team full of world class players. That has to stop.

Yeah, by all accounts it's around £120k too which seems sensible. Was half expecting us to have offered him 300k!

Thats still a sizeable contract for someone with such limited performance at the top level. I have no idea honestly what someone like him should be on though. All I know is Rashford is on too much money!!!
