US: The Mandalorian

Can’t say I agree, those tweets are not offensive and not even that controversial, people read way too much into them.

Cancel culture gone completely off the rails IMO. People need to get a grip and find better things to do (including Gina).

I thought the last episode was great, moved the story along at a good pace and good to see both Gina and Carl back oh and of course the child at the end :D

Not sure I agree with the comments above about the troopers, sure there could have been a few more but it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things given what the 4 of them just did and how that would actually go down in the real word.

It’s fiction, just enjoy it for what it is.

Mandalore - Where are my Mandalore friends?
Bartender - Dunno bro, but it's common knowledge that that dodgy looking alien over there knows. Hang on.
Shady Alien - Yes, I know where they are - but it will cost you (creepy laugh) hahaha.
Mandalore - I don't find this remotely suspicious which I will further demonstrate on your boat. When can we leave?

******* noob show.

Yup, as I've been saying, it's objectively pretty bad writing and acting, worse than the first season. I was really hoping they would step up the game significantly in season 2. :(

I'd rather have a simple show than that mess that is Startrek :)

It almost seems as if she is trolling the Twitter mob the amount of abuse she is getting is ridiculous so fair play to her standing up to them.

Sure if Pedro can get away with calling half of USA a bunch of WW2 bad guy's, I'm sure she be fine.

The guy has no leads and is hard as nails.

He was clearly suspicious.

So I'm re-watching bits of S1 during downtime between S2 eps and I've just finished episode 5 - Fennec Shand.

Mando and some clean cut-wannabe bounty hunter clown hunt down a dangerous assassin in the desert. Now she is 'killed' by clean cut clown and towards the end of the episode a mysterious figure with a cloak approaches her dead body - is that meant to be Moff Gideon? We don't see him till the end of S1 so I wasn't sure.

I am pretty sure it was Boba Fett. If you listen as he walks up to her body you can hear spurs. Boba Fett is the only character in Star Wars that i am aware of that wears spurs. It was a teaser... For the teaser at the end of the first episode in S2. ;)

Ah yes. Makes perfect sense, cheers guys. Can’t wait to see how that particular storyline pans out.

I’ll rewatch that clip for the spurs when I get home as I missed that.

I have now come to a conclusion about the writer of this show, Jon Favreau. Jon know what Star Wars should look like, he knows what Star Wars should feel like... but he is not a good writer and he is not a good caster.

Episode 4 of The Mandalorian contained some TERRIBLE dialogue... so bad you have to wonder how the **** people with multi-million budgets PER EPISODE cannot at least produce a half-decent script. The interaction between Cara Dune and Greef Karga is just painful. The actor who plays Greef Karga, Carl Weathers, is not only terrible and unconvincing in this show, but he also directed this episode, and it shows. Lots of disconnected action sequences shoehorned in for the sake of it, lacking in any tension whatsoever. The guy who plays the blue alien Mythrol guy is just diabolically bad, like they just grabbed him at short notice from the street.

This show looks and feels like Star Wars, but it is superficial. The acting and underlying script are atrocious and the story is just badly written, with characters doing and saying things that don't make sense and relying on too many gimmicky crutches such as now heavily overusing Baby Yoda to turn him into some human baby.

The first season was notably better because it was more genuine and it was not yet a runaway success... now they are trying too hard to impress and make people laugh make it as "Star Warsey" as possible and in doing so they are losing what made it work in the first place. It's a shame, because if this had been a show that had a good script and serious acting it would have been absolutely killer.

As it is, I will of course watch it because it's Star Wars and it is helping the popularity of the franchise which may lead to more and better movies, but it is certainly not of a high standard.

I think I've said this a few times, so didn't want to keep beating that particular dead horse, but as you say, it's such a shame as it could have been so good in it's own right, let alone Star Wars based.

It’s like you’ve never watched Star Wars before. :p

The entire franchise consists of basic story telling (it’s aimed at a family audience at the end of the day), terrible puns, average at best acting, has never taken its self seriously or had a serious story but the execution has always been great (except the final trilogy) and the films have always looked beautiful and has a fantastic atmosphere.

The reason it has market appeal is because it’s not a ‘serious sifi’ genre and has always been an easy light hearted watch with silly puns and jokes. The mandalorian just plays to all of those aspects and is exactly what most people want to watch on a Friday night after work.

If your into your serious sifi where you need to pay attention to every little detail I’d suggest watching the expanse or battlestar galatica. There just way too ‘heavy’ for most people compared to something like hearted like Star Wars.

The light hearted approach to simple storytelling what was completely missing from the final trilogy, they tried far to hard to make something ‘epic’ and completely lost their way and fell flat on their face. The mandalorian really plays to Star Wars roots and is exactly what was needed.

You are talking to a sci-fi nut who has seen most things out there (worth watching) and I trust my judgement and critical opinion. That you seem to think it's either "having a crap story and script" or "paying attention to every little detail", with no middle ground of having a decent mix of the qualities that simply make a good TV show, is a sad reflection of the average audience nowadays. It's a gradual dumbing down and lowering of standards.

No, I’m just saying this is how Star Wars has always been and isn’t anything particularly new with the mandalorian. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.

It’s always been a pretty basic story with light hearted humour and has never taken its self seriously and is why it’s gone mainstream. The acting and dialogue has never come close justifying any awards but the music, special effect have been great at worst and pretty epic in almost the entire franchise spanning decades. The execution has been on point for the most part(with the exceptions already noted in my original post).

It's not how "Star wars has always been" at all, that is a nonsense statement and I can happily decide what I want to watch while still being critical... but anyway lets agree to disagree as I think we are on slightly different wavelengths here. :)

Maybe so, but this has reached new levels... and as said, the script is just really bad... I mean, a little like you might see two kids playing Star Wars in their garden making up things as they go 'bad'. But yes, it does look pretty and is worth a watch still.

I'm OK with writing of the show, it's good to sit back and enjoy without having to think deeply.

I don't want multiple time lines, exploring gender equality under the first order or how wookies feel under represented in the work place.

That cracked me up because it’s so true:p

There is a time and a place for super in depth rich story telling and that has never been Star Wars. It’s always been about the atmosphere, sound track and simple ‘hero’ story, well until the last trilogy.

I also love shows like the expanse but I need to be in the right mood to watch them and that isn’t on a Friday night after a week at work.

Same goes for gaming, I love in depth experiences like cities skylines, other times I just want to frag some noobs on call of duty. The former takes time and mental energy, the latter is quite relaxing.

Me neither. Of course, I'm not asking for that myself.
