Can I ask how many passes are people doing on their normal day shave?
I used to do WTG, XTG, ATG. Recently though I have been getting good results from doing WTG, XTG (Nose to Ear), XTG (Ear to Nose) and getting good smooth results with less irritation.

how many passes

How long have I've got? :D

10 mins bathroom time (usual weekday mornings) = WTG then XTG (Ear to nose) for a nice CCS with basic hardware/software.
15-20 mins (If I wake up early or leave it until night time) = WTG, XTG (Ear to nose), XTG (Nose to ear) for a DFS.
30 mins (Luxury BBS with all the trappings) = WTG, XTG (Nose to Ear), XTG (Ear to Nose), ATG.

Two Normally.

Pass 1: WTG Face and Neck
Pass 2: XTG Face, ATG Neck

Sometimes a slight touch up around my jaw line.

Postie's been.

This was a bit of a spur of the moment thing. I was buying a second DE89 head from English Shaving and my mouse just happened to click on the above cream and added it to my basket without me noticing.

(this may be a lie)

Gents please help. I swear I've done everything right yet it keeps going wrong! Every single shave I've had takes forever and results in my face being on fire, and an ugly rash appearing. I've tried all kinds of blades from really blunt ones to feather blades. Yet no matter what I do the result is the same - skin that is itchy and burning for days, and ugly spots.

I never had any problems like this when using disposable razors. It was quicker and less of a hassle. Dare I say it was better () ?

I can't think of anything I've done wrong. Shave after showering, hot towel method, no pressure applied to razor etc. I do all this yet I'm going wrong somewhere :(

I'm no expert, but I find that shaving IN the shower is the easiest method, you just have to reapply the soap/gel more often due to the stream. I think my skin would feel too 'raw' to be comfortably shaved after a shower.

I guess everyone's face is different, though. If, after trying lots of things, disposables are genuinely giving you the best shave, then go with it.

What soap / cream are you using? Getting a good thick lather?

SO looks like I have chose my favourite blade.

I have some of those but I'm yet to try them. Just about got through most of the blades in my variety pack. So far Gillette Yellow and Blue are my favourites. Also like the feathers but they're so expensive compared to others which isn't justifiable to me.

Went through the variety pack and tried these ones at the end, and they where the best ( trying one blade from each per shave to get through them), typical.

Note to self generally, dont have a 3 pass shave when tired, jsut have one pass
and go to bed...lesson learnt lol.

Some Taylor of Old Bond Street stuff. It's pretty thick yeah.

i'm allergic to something in TOBS cream (Jermyn St, Coconut, Eton College), it burns my face and i get red blotches.

pick up a palmolive cream or soap stick from the supermarket and see if the problem goes.

also give cold water shaving a try, i haven't used hot water since last summer. A lot of people find they get better shaves with less irritation using cold water, me included.
