Centurion is you want to try a soap send me your details I have a brand new Dr Harris soap puck you can have for the price of postage as Traditional Shaving sent me another as there was an error with my order.

well so far my manly shaving is a disaster.

my skin just cant take it, DE89 with a couple of different blades, some decent foam which i got very foamy and some good moisturizer. got a fair few cuts, then a rash and then half of my face flaked away.

Method? warm face with hot water. Apply lathery foam, down stroke, across stroke the first time. Shave was ok, probably about as close as my electric razor

Did this shave a few more times still had plenty of nicks etc.

I then did a gentle upward stroke after the down and across stroke, and boy did it just make a mess. I need to look clean and sharp for work and this was anything but, I then suffered again with a malting face.

Both times i finished with a Alum Block or as i like to call it, the stingy block

not for me?

Cream is Taylors of old street for sensitive skin
Moisturizer is the same
Brush is a Edwin Jagger
Blades used are Asta SP's and SS's.

Well I gave wet shaving a miss since this last post in march and went back to my electric.

Today I gave it another try, not done any research. I just fancied it after a weekend of growth.

Pleased to say I changed my style, I let the razor do the work even if it wasn't cutting as close as I think it should? came away with no cuts doing a two pass shave with the grain and sideways.

I see now I was pushing against the skin last time cutting myself to bits I don't know why but I thought it would cut close straight away, you do need to give it a couple of passes and the results are good :)

Happy days

Closeness comes with experience.
I shave once every two days using WTG and XTG. If I need a closer shave I'll go with another XTG (opposite way). If I want a really close shave I will try to leave my stubble three or more days. I'm yet to try a WTG, XTG, XTG, ATG, not sure how my skin would cope with that much stress in one session :)

i like the first shave with feathers, the second shave is just like the first shave with an average blade for me though, not a blade i will buy many of.

Anyone tried a 2013 Muhle R41? that head on my Weber Bulldog handle with just a 7 O'Clock Super Stainless gives me the closest shave yet.

I would say slightly more aggressive than a FaTip head on the same handle. I think i'll try a 7 O'Clock Black or Iridium in it next.

(as seen in the ***Images of things purchased in May 2013*** Thread)

Just bought this Bad-Boy

uOBVfyF.jpg

for £9

The Styptic Pencil is as a Precaution!... Not sure it'll stop the bleeding if I cut my ear off!!, but it was only £1.97

All to go nicely with my Merkur 23C Long Handle and Edwin Jagger 99.9% Natural Sandalwood Shaving Soap.

I foresee the odd trip to A&E in my future!! :D :)

I didn't have much love for the Derby blades when I used them in my Muhle R89 and couldn't understand why so many people recommended them but having used one in my Merkur 38 Barberpole I can definately see why they are peoples 'cheap' blade of choice.

I have also tried the Palmolive Shaving stick and while it can't hold a candle to the Proraso Ultra Sensative it does an admirable job for the 50 pence it cost me from Morrisons.

Please report back how the shavette goes.

I'm on my 6th shave with my Parker shavette paired with feather blades and although the first 2 had me quivering my technique is coming on in leaps. Having come from cartridge shavers straight to a shavette i have no experience with a DE but my shaves leave me much more comfortable in the following days, I have one or two nicks here and there from time to time and much much less than my first 2 shaves even though I'm only 6 in but i find nicks i do get are barely noticeable even immediately after shaving compared to the unsightly rashes and scabby healing cuts the cartridge would throw up every now and again now i can even shave every other day if i wish compared to once every 4 days with the Gillette shavers. My shaving rash and ingrown hairs are also close to completely resolved in such a short time that i am very very impressed.

I'm enjoying it that much I'm contemplating a slant DE in the next few months, ive heard they are quite aggressive but once i master the shavette i feel it would be a great addition to my shaving.

I have noticed as others have mentioned that TOB shaving soap, more specifically for me the sandle wood causes me great irritation and drys my skin no end., i can not use hand soap of any kind because it really drys and irritates my skin and i get the exact same thing from my TOB shaving cream. I do however love the palm olive sticks, i got mine form morrisons for 50p! it's only downfall is it drys really quickly and while shaving the other day my chin started snowing where it was flaking off it was that dry but my skin remained un agitated none the less, if it held it's moisture it would be my one and only soap but as it stands im on the look out for something along the same lines which doesn't try and imitate the 12 days of Christmas in my sink,

All in all im kicking my self it took me this long to try it but a word of caution that i think you will all understand anyway; Respect it or it will hurt you!:D

Just to add that i have found shaving oil to be a must, soaked into the beard 5 or 10 minutes before i shave really makes a difference on the first pass.

Anyone tried Mitchells wool fat shaving soap? I've had good results compared to shaving creams like TOBs etc as it has a 'sticky' consistency that seems to protect the skin well

I love it, got on with it straight away. So much lather its insane, nice and thick and my skin just loves it. I very much doubt I will ever change it's just awesome.

I also bought it about erm 6 months (maybe longer) ago and I shave pretty much every day. I'm not even half way through it yet.

Hurray, St James Cedarwood & Clarysage shaving cream is back in stock at Creightons outlet ...and the 30% off code still works!!! (mar30)

That makes it around £3 per jar with free shipping! Time to stock up!

Has anyone used Truefitt & Hill No 10 shaving cream before? That looks good value at £3.50, shame they don't sell the more expensive stuff. :p

Edit:

That was quick, this little lot only cost £12 delivered.
