I wanted to try shaving traditionally, but spending over 50 quid to try it out seemed expensive. But now ive seen the DE89L I'm gonna give it a go. Do i just also need cream and a brush and blades? Any cheap options around to test the waters?

You only really need the razor and blades. You can get soaps and creams that you froth up with your hands so don't even need the brush! Big supermarkets have cheap brushes and creams, and blades actually, although the blades are more expensive than you'd got online. the first brush I had was a wilkinson sword one from boots for about £5.

Bought my DE89L at the end of January because I wasn't sure about spending £30 for a Merkur, as I have always suffered from really bad razor burn. Managed to get a DE89L locally for £18.99, proraso soap for £4.95 and paid about £10 for 30 assorted blades apart from picking up some TOBS shaving cream cheap from TK Maxx these have lasted me until this month, I have restocked with proraso and blades from traditional shaving and expect these to last me well into next year, I cant believe how cheap shaving is now and don't know what razor burn is anymore.

Ive just switched to DE aswell, mainly for cost and the coolness:p Theres a guy on AVForums that sells shaving kits, so I got a Parker and a years supply of different blades and some arko soap for £45

1st shave was tough as i went a bit too hard, skin was sore and red, the 2nd shave I went easier but wasnt so close. After that I had a look on youtube and altered the angle of cut and my technique and its much better now, its quite a satisfying experience, and not at all as scary as it inititially looks, ive only nicked myself 3 times, which is no worse that my old King of shaves razor.

Me too, thanks for the link.

We'll share cut face pictures :)

For many years I've been using Braun electric shavers with amazing results but over the last 2 years age, must have turned my hairs into Desperate Dan territory.
I've been using electric to get close and then using Protector blades to get the tough stubble off (I also use the Protector blades on my nether regions).
Protector blades have a little metal 'string' over the blades so you can't dig in and cut yourself.

I'll see how I go on with this but I'm positive my face will look like I've gone a round with Frank Bruno.

I cant stand razers that cause lots of cuts ... I remember a really crappy Lynx tri blade Razer that was complete pants compared to Gillete and Wilkinson Sword, all it did was literally shave my skin off my face :x

I much prefer electrics now, they dont irritate as much and I dont do close saves anymore.

Clean shaven =/= manly.

Well, I've commenced putting on my winter chin-coat, but sadly, having patchy stubble means I think I'll look awful :(

I've let it grow out before (for about a month,) and there was much pointing and laughing.

Curse my hairless genes!

Not sure if anyones mentioned this but i cba searching through over 1000 posts!

I go with the stubble look and have a trimmer, however i have the odd hair that sprouts out out of the normal stubble face area up towards eyes etc that end up looking like whiskers.

Using my king of shaves razor i can never really get a very straight skin/stubble line since the head is quite chunky.

Would it be worth picking up something like a cut throat razor where i could be more precise in sorting out edges or is there something else people use?
