Ran out of blades and soap so trying something a bit different. Went for

Colonel Conk Shaving Soap (Almond) as I do prefer soap to cream.
Trying some Russian blades the Astra Platinum and also some Shark Super Stainless :)

Going to order a sample of that Bluebeards revenge stuff on Thursday, Might try some feather blades as the free gift too.

So far I've not cut myself once, I have ran over a couple of bumps (rash) left by my old M3 razor but that's not down to the Merkur. I really didn't enjoy the shave I got with the Merkur blade, had a few now with the Derby Extra blades & they seem quite easy to shave with.....roll on the feathers & me moaning about my rattered tattered mess of a face lol.

The only tips I would give to the guys who seem to be perforating their faces are to shave with no pressure & to never ever slide the razor in any other direction than towards the handle, any sideways movement will cause a cut/slash. So far I've used the once with the grain, once across & once against technique. No rash & the smoothest shave ever have been the reward.

I'd be interested to learn how you find these Davie, let me know dude?

You really need to be able to shave downwards without cutting yourself before trying upward, its much easier to accidently jam the blade in your neck, I have a scar from going wrong with a DE blade!

Made my first attempt today, I watched the you tube vids re Merkur shaving as well and as I said before I used the downwards shave first then upwards, usually when using the Gillette Mach 3 it was all upwards. I have to admit I made one or two small nicks but nothing serious, I also have to admit I'll never go back to the crappy, disposable, expensive Mach 3 type again. What an amazingly close shave - time will tell how my skin stands up to a proper shave every two or three days but I'd guesss it'll cope a dam sight better than it ever would with my previous razor.

Bluebeards revenge cream seems to be really good, I tried it this afternoon with a feather blade & the shave was incredibly close.
Those feather blades are awesome, I've still got some astra blades to try but I think I have found the ones for me. I was pretty scared using the blade as they have a bad rep, I even bought an alum block because I thought I would be in tatters.

Hey guys,

This might have been answered before but after a quick search couldn't find. I have a Merkur 34C and am looking for some decent quality, cheap razors for it.

Can anyone link me a good site that sells bulk for cheap?

Ta!

Well my shaving is still going well, got quite a wide variety of bits not.

Been really getting into boar brushes of late, just fancied a change.

But i have ordered some pretty rare valobra lavenda cream/soap, it's very soft so should be interesting.

Current weapon of choice is a slant, as i need to shave every other day.

Well - I have officially run out of my almond Trufitt & Hill shaving cream today - It lasted me 8 months which is decent going I thought. Ordered some West Indian Lime and more Almond today. Obviously using my 10% discount / voucher code 'bandb' at the Traditional shaving Company :)

I wouldn't know about bulk but the big river place seems as good as any for buying 100 blades, I guess that sort of is bulk. they do packs of 100 derby extra for around £9.

So far I think the best blades I've tried in my 34c are the feather blades, I have a pack of astra blades to try after I'm done with this one.

The shaving shack also do packs of 100 for around that price too, if you spend over a tenner though you can get some free stuff, I normally go for the 10 free feather blades with my order.......I'm a tight git lol.

Used the last of my Derby's the other day, found then pretty hit and miss. Just received 50 Astra SP to try next :)

All going in a Merk 34c.

I bought one of those alum blocks, even if I don't cut myself I rub it over my face. It feels quite good, has antiseptic & closes the pores.

Just tried the Astras and I love them! Smooth close shave with my EJ DE89L.

First shave with the Astra SP's in my 34c last night - Brilliant, really smooth with no tugging at all, not a single cut.

I use natural source mint shave cream, followed up with bulldog cream afterwards.

Like a babys bottom :D

I caved in and treated myself to a 34c, brush and blades etc. I shaved about an hour ago and was a bit apprehensive but it went pretty well even though I've nicked myself in several places. The Mrs walked in and saw loads of blood on my chin and was well shocked! I did 2 passes and it does feel smoother than my normal fusion shave. I'd not shaved for over a week though so I'm not sure if I left it too long for the first shave with the merkur.

I've also got a pretty bad shaving rash on my neck which I've never suffered from before. I shaved today cos I didn't want to wait till tomorrow morning and then go into work looking like I'd jumped through a window. I bought a styptic pencil though and it worked wonders, stopped the bleeding straight away.

I'll try again in a couple of days and see if it's any easier.
