The Manly Shaving Thread

Ive been using Astra platinum blades and they have been great but occasionally I get one or two that dont seem as sharp as others.

They are better than the Derbys I started with.

I shave every day with a safety razor. Using Taylor sandlewood cream.

Some days a disposable would be a better choice because when Im half asleep I sometimes miss patches .

Ordered the following from shavingshack:

Merkur 34C Heavy Duty Classic #2725
Pure Badger Shaving Brush #2606
Taylor of Old Bond St Shaving Cream (Sandalwood 150g) #2674
10 Feather & 10 Derby Extra & 10 Israeli Made Double Edged Razor Blades #2805
FREE 1 Wilkinson Sword Double Edged Razor Blades #3103

Anyone know what the turn around times are for order dispatch from shavingshack?

Sadly I'm just as burnt out as I was last night, but I'd like to order now so it's got a good chance of arriving next week.

What razor?

Just ordered it with the DE89. Since it's costing me just under £20 for it, if I stay shaving this way I could buy a replacement later without feeling like I've wasted too much money.

Well, the stuff arrived this morning. So I said I'd leave it until I've used up the last of the Gilette Mach Turbo Power Excel mk4 blades. Then I said I'd not do it today because I'm going on a night out. Then I went and used it today anyway.

The lime cream smells and feels great. The brush is a paint brush, which I should have expected I guess.

I used an Astra blade and I have a reasonably smooth shave with a couple of not quite smooth patches, and zero nicks/cuts/gaping wounds. My head is still attached to my neck.

It was a pleasing experience shaving this way.

Next I need a bowl to mix the stuff in and a stand. Like the one in the post above. I think I'll end up getting something similar.

If I have any criticism at all it's that the razor is slippy in my hand, and not as long as I'm used to. I expect I'll get used to that.

Thanks for the help folks! :)

i had my first shave with the slim adjustable this morning (Gillette 7 o'clock green, TOBS jermyn street).

Set on number 4 it wasn't as aggressive as my 34c, most noticeable on my neck, i needed more touch ups after a 2 pass shave to get it smooth.

i think i'll try it on 5 or 6 for the next shave and see how it compares.

I think there's a reason for that, the shorter handle prevents you being able to apply too much pressure and rely on the weight of the razor itself.

Ah, interesting. In any case I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly.

Something I do need to ask... what should I be doing to look after my shiny new stuff? The brush in particular I guess needs to be looked after somehow?

Edit : It seems there's lots of drip stands for brushes, all of them with the bristles pointing down - that does make sense.

This looks quite attractive and functional.

Ideally I think I want something that will catch drips from the brush, but that isn't chrome underneath because it would need polished daily... Time for me to do some searching around!
