Ordered these from Traditional Shaving:

Black badger - Tortoise
Edwin Jagger DE89L Chrome Plated Lined
Taylor of Old Bond Street Mr Taylor
Razor blade sample pack (35x)
Styptic Pencil

The postie turned up early on Saturday so I missed the delivery.
I'll pick them up from RM on Monday and see how it goes!

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the shizzle:

:)

£50 seems a bit steep. The bowl on it looks a bit smaller than I think I'd like, so I'm not sure it's the right thing for me. I've been looking at lots and I'm starting to think I'm better off just buying the cheap plastic individual stands, and getting some kind of shaving bowl/mug separately.

these are pretty good for the money --> Stand

my other 2 razors live on it now, rather than a brush and razor.

no need for a bowl/mug? i always face lather :)

I'm going to try using my face, and see what happens. I do seem to have taken to using a mug, but it's not wide enough.

That stand is a nice price, but I think I'd be worried about the blooming, knowing it was there would annoy me - and I do know it's not logical but it's a little flaw I have. :)

The razor is ok standing on the side, however the brush, I think, for longevity should be suspended upside down so that the water drains from it.

I wouldn't overly concern myself about the way the brush sits. My brush sits up and has no problems. Don't forget, it's not like there'll be water draining from it. After you use it, give it a rinse, squeeze and rub on the towel and there should be next to no water in it anyhow.

On another note I recently got some Trumpers Coconut oil cream and it's very nice, I prefer over the Mitchells wool soap I'd be using. I fancy getting some of their Lime cream next as I like the scent after trying some Queen Charlotte Key Lime soap.

Do you botox too? :D

I've been using a DE razor for a couple of months now and have noticed that one side of the blade always becomes blunt far more quickly than the other, and I mean really noticeably more blunt. What would be the reason for this?

Well, I ordered the cheap stand Spaceman linked. I'll let the thread know how damaged it is when it arrives.

I finally picked up the courage to have another go after my first disastrous attempt! I bought some Derby blades this time but the result has been the same. I've watched the videos and got the gear but still managed to cut myself to ribbons. The styptic pencil has been one of the best things I've bought :) Been shaving for 30 odd years so it's not exactly new to me, just can't seem to use my Merkur. I'll still be using my Bluebeards Revenge and brush but with my trusty Mach 3. Anyone know if I can sell my stuff on MM?

Enjoying shaving with a DE, still going through different sample blades at the moment to find what suits me best. Quick question for the more experienced DE users though - still getting small nicks on my neck. Usually have 2-3 passes, with/across/against the grain, relathering between each pass but no matter how carefully I try, I still end up with a few tiny little bleeds - any tips? The Alum block seems to stop them pretty quickly to be fair, but wondered if there is anything else I could do to reduce/prevent them?

How many shaves does a blade last you guys? My first blade seems to have lasted 5 shaves (I've been trying it out!) - is that about right?

Also Mr Taylor's aftershave lotion arrived today - quite happy with that too.

I'm finding this whole shaving thing much more satisfying than the gilette mach turbo excel super mega 40 blade rip-off stuff.

The stand arrived today, it's the one that Spaceman recommended.

I can't find anything wrong with it - as you can see yourself in the picture.

As for my razor fitting in it, it's too thick to fit except for the very top of it, and if there's any momentum when I let go it'll slide off. It does hold it fine once it's sitting in there though, I just need to be careful when I put the razor away.

I also shaved my head smooth last night - no stubble left at all.

I started with the Astra blade I'd been using - which seems good. Switched to a Derby blade... I felt it was easy to use, and didn't seem jagged, but it also didn't seem very sharp, so once I'd got most of my head shaved I switched to a Shark blade, which was sharp, but to me seemed a bit jagged. I've a few blades to work through. I yet to nick myself, so I'm wondering if I'd be better off with sharp blades like the Feather blades everybody rates - however I'm going to work my way through all of the sample blades first - I'm sure they're all just fine for shaving my face.

Had my first DE shave this morning with my Merkur 34c. No nicks and a fairly close shave. With practice I can see this being far superior to my current KingOfShaves gear.

All the easy bits are nice and smooth. Just need a bit more praccy round the neck and adams apple areas. Using the supplied Merkur blade at the mo, have a whole bunch of others to try too.
