The maturity level in the Graphics Cards Forum.

I hear that. ALXAndy posts good things, it's just that if your opinion differs to his, then we are all wrong and the way he answers you back in a belittling way, is not required.
I can't help but get wound up, even though I know I shouldn't.

EDIT:

There is another guy who posts here recently, who just contradicts everything he writes. He hates NVIDIA and they are **** but he is going to get a 590 but they blow up so he is going to get a 7950 but they are not powerfull enough so he is going to get a 7990 but they are too power hungry etc etc.

I think I need to get out more, even though it is raining :(

yes i noticed, he gets to you every time just like i do, try using your brains and handling the situation better, plus in addition, try to get your facts right about me...

you make me laugh :D

( i think i'll get the MSI Lightning 7970, because according to my new friend Andy, it's a better card than the GTX 680, unfortunately i was unable to buy it today because my spelling is so bad and i couldn't fill the form in correctly, so i'm now saving for a dictionary instead) :D ha ha ha

Sigh. I can see it. This thread is going to be te one that gets us all suspended.

I think I'll leave until people have cooled down a bit, but what I will say is lets try and keep personal comments about individuals out of this :)

Sorry Mal, I wasn't having a go at you. I was saying you are undecided what you want and tbf that's cool. Honestly if it seemed like I was having a go, then I appoligise.

EDIT:

Reading my post again, it looks rude. It wasn't typed that way. I was trying to explain I need to get out more and go with the flow. :)

you weren't that rude and to be honest i'm not sure which card to get anyway, so i suppose i deserve it

rude is :- tomorrow morning on my other forum if Palace get beaten by Saints

What I would like to know, who would make that decision. After all, without opinions this forum would be dead and a high percentage of those opinions will be wrong. How do you determine who is a troll hiding "behind the excuse of "oh, it's my opinion", when as said above so many opinions are wrong in the first place.

They're the ones who always disagree with the general consensus - the ones who would claim that black is white just to get a rise out of others.

Also those who, despite evidence to the contrary, still claim their opinion is right.

Far too much fanboism going on imo, which reverts into childish bickering and downright stupidity, possibly sometimes costing folks stupid amounts of hard earned cash.

Take this thread for example:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18389803

Short story for those that cba looking at it is:

Guy asks a question whether he should change cards, his has a good oc, the other performs almost exactly the same, busy thread but there are countless mindless posts saying 'do it'.

80 posts later my honest post about the gfx fanbois stops the thread(almost) dead in it's tracks.

I have hardly posted since this thread because I'm getting fed up with it tbh, I try to give out honest advice, but now you get grief for it because someone else wants you to buy their brand choice instead of what's good enough regarding the op in question.

On the subject of ALXAndy:

Is ALXAndy one of them? they seem to share the same obsession about proving the benefits of VRAM with little in the way of actual evidence.

You misinterpret his posting(like a lot here) and I was guilty of this too.

I couldn't believe half the stuff he was posting due to it feeling like he was just plain wrong, wrong, wrong.

But although some of it may be wrong, the vast majority makes sense, when the things he hammers into happens to be our choice of hardware, it's more often than not taken personal instead of realising it's the tech getting it, not the user.

He slaughters both of AMD/Nvidia but he's given the misconception of being a fanboi in a lot of the threads.

He hammers into his own gpu's faults because unlike nearly everyone here, he is truthful about it, he doesn't pull any punches.

i quite like him, he makes me laugh, you lot get so wound up by him; do you realise that he's behaving like this on purpose simply for the sheer hell of it.

you need to understand what his game is, he digs at you; but not quite enough to get deleted, but you dont help yourselves because you bite back all the time, it really is quite funny to read.

+1

Sucked right in, every time.

I can't help but get wound up, even though I know I shouldn't.

Not having a go gregster, but you(and others) were giving as good as you got.:)

He gives it out but he takes a bigger tanking back(when everyone gangs up on him) imho, but that's part of his game.

yes i noticed, he gets to you every time just like i do, try using your brains and handling the situation better

Exactly this.

I think he's been very quiet lately, just hope he's not left as I for one will miss his posting.

This. I didn't make this thread for the purpose of singling people out. So please don't use it for such, otherwise you are just proving me right...

Was my post applicable to your thoughts shayper?

It was not in anyway meant as singling anyone out, more so it was for expressing my take(100% nothing personal meant in any way) of peoples views on ALXAndy.

Not at all.

Who really cares?

Seriously?

Let them get on with it.

If they start acting out of place im sure the mods can deal with it.

Without singling you out, I would like to point you in the direction of Krony's thread...

At the end of the day, we're all PC enthusiasts, whether you choose AMD/Intel/Nvidia, all the discussions about which is best are bantersaurus and should be treated as such. It's up to the individual who's buying tech to research it themselves and make their choice, it's their money.

People rarely take advice, they prefer to make their own choice, whether right or wrong, we've all done it, it's called learning.

The Graphics Cards subforum has always been like this, I don't know why anyone would start complaining now. Sometimes I can just take a nice long break from reading the threads in here. :D

@Shayper,

Cool mate.

Who really cares?

Seriously?

Myself, Shayper(or he wouldn't have made the thread in the first place) which I and others put some input into.

A lot of people come here starting out and/or not knowing much about PC's in general, so some do make purchases on advice given.

I agree it's up to the user to make the choice, but it doesn't help when the thread I linked to earlier more or less on the whole advised the user to needlessly change his gpu.

Sometimes a passion is shown and it comes out in a thread. I sit at work/pub and have the exact same discussions. I don't speak to people in person any differently to the way I post.

We talk about footy/work/women/golf/cars etc etc.

A forum is no different and so long as personal insults are left out, I don't see a problem. Dave Beast hit it on the nail. It is just banter with no offence meant.

When I look back through Shayper and Tommybhoys posts, you do the same thing as what some of us do. Please don't be hypocritical when you are no better.

Do I? When have I? If you can show me proof of what I've done I shall apologise.

Yep this is a classic sketch. But I'm wondering how its applicable to the topic of forum maturity though? Some kind of patronizing moral-class-snobbery perhaps?

* I am a mature forum user, ergo I regard with great disdain those who are not.

* I am semi mature forum user, therefore I look down on those who are immature, and look up to those who are mature.

* You judge and label me as immature. Well, I don't really care. **** off.

Personally I don't mind a bit of forum immaturity, its makes a nice contrast to the overly mature types that insist on looking down their noses at everyone. When I consider joining an online community I tend to look for a nice mix of characters, just to keep things interesting. Obviously if it gets too out of hand then the mods start kicking people. But in the mean time I say everyone is different, stop judging and just embrace it.

Oh and finally, the OcUK forums are actually quite tame. If your sensibilities are so delicate that they are offended by what you read here, then for your own sake its probably best you avoid the rest of the internet.
