The meta headset borkdate thread.

Both my Quest 3 and Pro auto-updated to 72. Though the Pro is still showing the old UI. I turned off auto updates as a precaution though.

My daughter brought my old Quest 2 with her for her Christmas visit so we could play Walkabout together and I turned off auto updates so that didn't get bricked - it's still on 62.

Had a lot of issues getting Walkabout working with the new Christmas course on both the Q2 and Q3. Had to uninstall that off all the accounts on the headset before the game said the course was installed...

Currently the best way to update a headset on an older firmware is to do it incrementally using the firmwares from Basti's site.

I haven't updated my Quest 3 for a while (I tend to update when I fancy it), but updated this morning and was only offered v71 (which seems fine). Maybe they have pulled v72?

Edit - I was coming from v69, so not a massive jump.

Seems like this Meta update really did cause issues there's a thread on the oculus quest sub reddit by their mods about the update bricking headsets. It will be a minority but even 1 percent is a lot of headsets.

Hey everyone,

Thank you to those who reported this issue to us on the forums. We discovered a software update issue that caused some Quest 2/3/3S headsets to be unresponsive and unable to start up correctly. We are actively working on resolving the issue for all users, but in most cases, you are now able to use your device normally.

If you have a device that’s still unresponsive, we're here to help. Please contact customer support through the Help Center for next steps. This will be the best way to resolve the issue. Since this issue involves individual headsets and personal account information we regret that we are unable to assist you directly on the community forums.

Thank you for your understanding.
