The meta headset borkdate thread.

V74 now only charging headsets to 74%

A Meta update thats broken something, that can't be right...

I get why there might be a power cap limit being put in place, same reason with laptops, phones, do you need a fully charged battery if you aren't leaving the house, but you need the ability to turn it off and on surely?

for battery life optimisation sure stop charging at say 80% or make surt when its plugged in and being used its not passing current through the batteries ect. same way corporate laptops do it.
the "scarier side" of the story may be they are artifically reducing battery capacity in preporation for a new headset release to try and force people over to a newer version. but thats just silly talk no company would do that.. would they......

What, you mean like Apple reducing performance just before a new device comes out "In order to keep battery life optimal"

Is everyone getting the new horizons world portals appearing in the quest home environments. My V74 Q2 has them but not on the V76 Q3. Easily turn offable in the settings.

I turned off auto-updates for my Quest Pro. Too many risks of the controllers being borked with a bad update and then Meta offering to sell you a 'reconditioned' one instead of replacing it, when it was their update system that borked it.

Plus loads of reports of bad wireless PCVR performance...

meta acknowledge that V76 had borked wifi 7.

Currently the best way to update a headset on an older firmware is to do it incrementally using the firmwares from Basti's site.

Firmware repository
Hey @drakulton is there a link I can visit to learn how to manually update the firmware (V74 to V76) on a Q3? Or if there is no link do you know how to do it and if so could you give me some brief but still complete instructions please? You'd be helping me out, my app is only compatible with V76 but some users of my app are still on V74 and want to upgrade. I know they do it at their own risk etc.

Do not try a fresh install of the meta link software. The latest borkdate is stopping the link software downloading at 2.18Gb of a 2.19Gb download. The meta help forums are swamped with posts about being unable to download/install it.

Having just gone to virtual desktop which doesnt have an internet connection should i just turn off the local wifi and the updates?

my thoughts : if you dont have internet on headset because its on a private/isolated network then you dont need to worry.
if it has internet access then unless your doing the adb route for update disable, it'll get forced regardless at some point.
some times its not good to wait to long to update though so dont get to far behind.
