* The Metal Thread *

I love Emperor, they are my favourite band but don't like that album so much, I like a few songs but find myself listening to Live Inferno a lot these days, along with ITNE and Anthems. :D

Agreed. Prometheus was very much an Ishan Prog metal album rather than a real emperor album - the change in the sound was huge from 9equilibrium and his two subsequent solo releases kind of reaffirm this (they sound similar ish).
Having said that, In the Worldless Chamber is a masterpiece :)

More shameless promotion - the first track from the new Diablo Swing Orchestra album is online.

If you fancy something different, fresh and professionally done in metal, have a listen here.

That's copied straight off an old Jazz record.

The DSO track I love drumming to is Gunpower Chant. Not really metal, more of a short exploration piece.

I've always been a big Slayer fan, liked some of the heavier stuff, seen Cannibal Corpse few times.

Any Strapping Young Lad fans here? Alien is one of my favourite albums, also a big fan of Devin Townsends solo stuff, "Ziltoid the Omniscient" is a fantastic album/musical.

I loved "City" - was (and still is) an amazinlgy brutal yet oddly tuneful album. Gene Hoglans drumming on it was perfect..
Didnt really get into the later SYL stuff... Maybe should go and relisten to Alien.

So you don't rate the new singer?

No because Bon was ACDC and I was lucky to see him 3 times.
Brian was great with Geordie though and he does do a great job with ACDC.
It's just that after 2 songs his voice gets on my nerves.
I bought Back In Black, For Those About To Rock and then cassette taped the rest.
Funnily enough when Bon Scott died I actually said to my mates that they ought to get the guy in from Geordie so it came as no surprise.

I've just started listening to Yngwie Malmsteen - despite being quite repetitive, some of it is brilliant! Got the Attack!! album and a few others :)

Scar symmetry, Soilwork, Dream Evil - some of the greatest bands ever. Pretty much only ever produce ridiculously good songs.

there my backup bands that will always be awesome, recently i have been listening to Firewind.

Haven't read every post but doing a search of the thread seemed to turn up no results for firewind or dream evil so hes some youtubes incase you fancied a listen. (youtube quality is pretty terrible on both)

Firewind

Dream Evil

I think the best album is Rust in peace just for pure speed of the guitars, but I love all their albums.

Agreed - best album by far.

Has anyone listened to Endgame yet? I was pleasantly surprised

ANTHRAX!! Thrash metal for the win. Been listening to Anthrax for a couple of months now and I love their older 80's/90's stuff!
