* The Metal Thread *

Sonata Arctica and Delain in Islington tonight were great. Sonata Artica tellingly got a better response when playing older stuff than material from Days of Grays/Unia (apart from a small segment of the crowd who only seemed to know these two albums).

Delain were also top notch considering how small they are here in the UK, got thier [new] album as it's not out over here for another month or two, but has been out in europe for months, and cost as much to buy as merch as it does to import the damned thing. I can see them doing reasonably well in the symphonic metal circles over the next few years if they don't quit or implode, having some links to Within Temptation will probably help them there.

Winterborn were decent but you could tell they were the smaller/less practiced of the 3 bands :)


More shocking for me was the damned train ticket from MK cost more than the ticket for the actual gig!

Love the way it just drops down into the chorus and the calm of eye of the storm in the middle.
