* The Metal Thread *

I used to really dislike Trivium, however by god that song is flippen awesome...totally changed my perspective of them.:D

Shogun is a damn good album, not heard anything off that?

Im actually quite dissapointed with the Malefice new album, some of the songs lack clarity and the new vocal style doesn't appeal.

Ohh just found this thread!

Big Opeth fan here.

So I see!

Anyone round here like Orphaned Land or any other Israeli bands like Amaseffer for example? Amazing stuff!
I recall someone refering to Orphaned land as IsraeliPeth :P But they're amazing in their own right, possibly even better than Opeth if you had to compare :| Which we won't as its all unique.

That mastodon track is pure class and that opeth artwork is HILARIOUS! Looks normal until you notice the tree has the band members faces in it...thats just hilariously bad cheese territory.

Agree!

It is a little bit cheesy, but Im sure it is a reference to somthing else.

Surely a similar album artwork has been done before? Im sure I'v seen it somewhere.

Heard the first release from the next album?

I have a few Orphaned Land albums.

I wouldnt say Orphaned Land are similar to opeth....

Opeth is Prog Death Metal (as well as more classical and jazz influences in there as well), Orphaned Land is more Ethnic Symphonic Metal.

A bit like Therion.

Different genres.

I know its not metal, but I have only just this weekend delved in to Depeche Mode!

Lots of metal bands have been influenced by some of this stuff, I can hear it.

Most of it is shizer, but thereare some great tracks amongst the crap.

Its got a real industrial dark love vibe to it...

We can sortof agree to disagree. I wouldn't call OL symphonic as such.. They are deffinately progressive and have a lot of elements like Opeth due to the different elements but yeah not really *that* death metal, although they used to be a bit more heavier.

Amaseffer though, as you mention them, are a lot more like Therion. Mainly because they have Mats Levin doing vocals who did quite a bit with Therion.

Their first and only album (at present) starts off a 3 album story based on Exodus and Moses.. Its an amazing listen, really takes you somewhere else... I'm not religious but religion makes great stories and its fine in music if its not preaching just telling a great story :).
The musicianship is amazing, but not showing off for the sake of it, it all works.

If anyone likes progressive metal and concept albums.. and maybe has never had the chance to go to Egypt :P Check em out

Easily one of the best tracks, ever -

As someone so rightly said in the comments, 1:09 onwards is the very definition of talent. :)
