* The Metal Thread *

I agree that Iommi recorded some great albums post Ozzy/Dio Sabbath era's, but they weren't Black Sabbath albums and never should have carried the Sabbath name, Iommi wanted to change it but was pressured by the record companies into retaining it.

In my opinion the only albums that deserve the Sabbath name post Ozzy era, are Heaven & Hell & Mob Rules. After that it became Tony Iommi and a who's who of various rock/metal musicians, invariably it always sounded great, but was imo, too far removed from the original vision of Black Sabbath to rightfully carry the name.

He definitely should have fought a bit harder to lose the Sabbath name to be honest. You are right in saying that the music didn't fit the band name at that time.

The lineup changes got ridiculous. Iommi seemed to be oblivious that all the changes were alienating half of their fans and making people lose interest. Still - being a legendary guitarist he was able to pull some serious talent into the band, even though it didn't stay there long!

Best british band by a country mile I reckon, they're playing in my town in November :D

I managed to meet the bassist :P I was in the rock royalty bit of sonisphere (posh bit) and he was sitting there packing some stuff into a van, tbh he is not the most interesting guy in the world but hes a nice guy :P

Do still love rocking out to this song, Amazing to say the least!

Ohh and I usually hate remixes but seriously this is just brilliant. The original by a perfect circle is quite frankly a superd song and Maynards voice is undoubtly one of the best there is but this remix is so much darker than the original which i like.

Just getting into ISIS, this album is great.

Easily one of the heaviest, most brutal albums I've heard, pure awesomeness.

What an amazing band though. Not many bands are able to maintain such a consistently high standard, yet evolve their sound as much as they did, taking quite a few risks, which paid off spectacularly in my opinion. They even had the balls to pack it in when they knew they had no more to offer.

Well I wouldn't say that... the last 2 albums were pretty naff. So I would say they ran out of 'things to offer' 2 albums before! :D

They were nowhere near the heights of Panopticon or Oceanic.

I'd argue otherwise. Different, yes, but not worse or better. Each album has something unique to offer and excels in a different way.

This is what defined ISIS, they were prepared to change their sound regardless of what their fans wanted, hence some of the polarising views surrounding their albums. Most bands in their position after releasing Celestial would have milked that sound for the rest of their career. You only have to look at this thread to see that.

Indeed it's very heavy, my favorite album by them so far. Got to admit I'm not so much into thier post-metal material, but I think it just needs time.

You might like the band Shora. They have a post-rock album and also a very heavy one which is tagged as the "noisecore" genre, lol. It remdinds me a bit of The Red Sea by ISIS. :)

I added you on last.fm btw.
