The most disturbing films of all time

[Spoiler?] (Who hasn't seen it anyway..?)

Where she comes out of the telly at the end of the Ring remake i was loling in the cinema, but a few months ago the original was on C4 and i had to turn it over at the same point :o

The original was much scarier imo.

Well I watched Passion of The Christ last night and have to say I found it horrrendous to watch, so brutal it's almost unbelievable.

Scum was pretty bad. I can't bring myself to watch it again tbh.

ID (the football violence one) is definitely up there. 8mm really freaked me out too.

I watched scum last night, the greenhouse scene was very disturbing... Another film that freaked me out was Butterfly Kiss.

999, the football violence one, i think you mean Football Factory or Hooligans aka Green Street? Both quite strong movies.

Just had a quick look on IMDB and I found it.
I have no idea why the plot summary is in French though...

The most disturbing film I've seen is Irréversible. The 10 minute long rape scene in the film is very hard to watch, and some of the scenes in the film (especially at the start) are downright brutal. I've not seen some of the others mentioned in here (Ichi, I Spit on Your Grave), but they'd do well to be as disturbing as this one.

I spit on your grave has about 4 or 5 rape/beating scenes all with the same women, some last quite a while. Last house on the left, rape/sexual abuse scenes are pretty hard nasty too and the innocent type music throughout makes it seem worse.

Eraserhead was the most disturbing for me, it has that nightmarish quality about it that tends to linger in your mind afterwards. Ichi the killer was nastily brutal in a more graphic way.

I saw Audition again recently.. starts all normal and ends very nastily. Oldboy is all about the nasty! Its a great movie too which keeps you glued to the screen :)

I.D's not French! :p

Whoops :p

I kind of remembered seeing that IMDB article before this thread, and must have seen the French plot summary, so assumed it was French, rather than just the fact that a French person submitted a plot summary :p

After reading through the thread I've decided to watch a few of the films that have been recommended. I've seen A Clockwork Orange, Battle Royale, Cannibal Holocaust, Ichi The Killer, ID, Kids, Romper Stomper and Scum. I'm gonna watch the Dentist tonight (Horror Channel, 23:05) followed by Requiem For A Dream. I've also got Irreversible and Jacobs Ladder to watch tomorrow. A film that hasn't been mentioned yet is Salo by Pier Paolo Pasolini. I read through a few different websites about disturbing films and this constantly gets mentioned. A lot of reviewers haven't been able to watch it all the way through. I'll report back once I've watched them all.

I remeber watching "The Wicker Man" and that was just really weird!! So full of suspense as well, and the Clock Work Orange is weird too, but only the fist time you watch it!

"The Wicker Man"
Is that the one with Dustin Hoffman ?

P.S: Dustin's Marathon runner film was a bit full on.

nope it stars Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland, its set in south west scotland, so British actors!
