The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

I also noticed I'm getting the odd electric shock from the USB ports when I plug them in (on ocassion not all the time mind you).

You using your tongue ;)
Have you seen what happened to someone on heres MSI board with a bad USB?
I can't find it atm as the search is down, but it involved a fire.

Are you saying you can actually feel a shock from them?

That's really bad there only supposed to be 5v it would have to be a leak from the psu, unless your plugging in the usb with your tongue :(

But seriously I would check it out with a meter because that would be a fire waiting to happen.

Its simple, you want anything Samsung TCCD based. The OCZ PC3200 Rev.2 is awesome, will clock to 275FSB and the rest. The Geil Ultra-X, Corsair XMS XL and Patriot XBLK are also good TCCD based modules. Gskill makes some too but I think you have to import.

Go for the OCZ, you won't regret it.

Thanks for the concern.

However I don't have ANY front USB ports plugged in, the only USB ports that are active are the ones on the back of the board that protrude out of the backplate. Therefore it can't be that I've got USB incorrectly wired etc etc.

WRT Electric shocks, no I didn't use my tongue !! I have a USB extender lead that came with an MP3 player and on the odd occasion of plugging in a peripheral I have felt an electric shock coming from the end of that extender cable with my fingers.

I think I'm gonna plug in the diagnostic card and see if that gives me any clues. Failing that I'm gonna take the board out of my case and reseat it. If all else fails I'm gonna RMA it (again) and ask for an Abit. I don't want a potential fire risk in the home.

The Geil Value will be fine, missed the bit about not overclocking, save yourself some money in that case, this will do the job perfectly.

Dunno if my Corsair 3200LL bh5 is tccd or not but it only clocks upto 225 at 1:1 with 2.85vdimm.

Yeah i thought it had. Might get a booster and see if i can push it a bit more. Running it on 6/5 and got cpu to 2.5 gig no probs, which gets me 34secs i think on 1mb superpi.

Hi all,

First time posting so be gentle :P

I seem to have a problem with a Neo 2 board.... with 2 sticks of Geil Value (Dual channel pack) this board refuses to POST if I use the memory in Dual channel (ie. sticking 1 stick in each channel). Various different slots on the MB were used AND I've tried different memory and it still doesn't work....

However....

It works fine (with odd error / crash / slow boot) if the memory is in a single channel.....

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm getting near the point were I'm going to RMA this board now as nothing I seem to be able to try wants to work....

Need more info.
The symptoms you describe are what happens with a winchester chip and an older BIOS.

Have a look here at ways of flashing.

quick question:

if i put all 4 of these in my neo2, would they all work dual channel?:

geil golden dragon 512mb
geil golden dragon 512mb
geil golden dragon 512mb
geil golden dragon 256mb

thnx :)

Err nope or maybe.

See here..

However, the same type and density memory modules are necessary while using dual-channel DDR, or instability may happen.

well i am using a 256mb and a 512mb atm and they are fine :p , was just wondering if i put the other 2 sticks in that they would stay in dual channel.
