The MSI Neo2 Platinum Owners Help Thread

Just upgraded from a IDE HDD to a SATA HDD, now Windows takes ages to load! I have a Raptor plugged into SATA port 3 and the 320GB into SATA port 4, before Windows loading screen didn't even scroll once, it now takes about 10 scrolls!

Any ideas?

Have you set up the BIOS correctly in both the RAID and SATA port enable sections?

Also, try putting your Raptor on Port 1 or 2 instead in case mobo is confused between the 2 drives on SATA3/4.

Its a really long thread, can owners post the best overclocking bios.
I used the original bios (not sure what one it was though) and could get 320 FSB, now using the latest from MSI, cant get anywhere near it.
Also what software to use with this bios.

tried looking through the thread but couldnt find what I was looking for..

Have there been any 64bit SATA floppy drivers released for the Neo2 yet?

Looking to use XP64 but can't install it without the SATA drivers :(

Erm, you shouldnt need them should you???

I have not installed XP64 to my MSI Neo using SATA, only PATA, however, XP32 does not need Sata Drivers to play ball.

The DFI LanParty has had XP64 as has the Gigabyte K8VT800M, and both those installed XP64 without needing SATA Drivers, so why not just try it?

Guys

I'm looking at buy a new board to use with the Opty 144. Is this a good one to get?

The rest of the kit consist of Corsair VS DDR400 ram, XFX6600GT (AGP) and Antec 430 PSU.

If this is not a good, what would you guys recommend :)

^I ordered one last week to go with an opteron 146.

I got the neo2 from another online reseller but it seems to be a refurbished board, I'm not sure if new ones are still being made.

I have no a64 to test with until my opteron turns up tomorow so I'll let you know how I get on.

The rest of the system will be 2 x 512MB geil bh5, 2 x 512MB geil ch5, leadtek 6800GT @ ultra speeds, audigy 2 (altough may see how I go with neo2 onboard sound first), Intel scru31 u160 scsi raid controller, antec truepower 480w. I have only one sata drive so not using sata port 1&2 is not a problem for me (they have no pci lock).

I did, temps were reported 10c hotter, so I flashed back to 1.7 and ended up with a knackered bios chip, got a new chip flashed with 1.7 and leaving it ;)

Anyone any idea what the acceptable range of temps is for a Northbridge on a MS-7025??
I have recently popped a Zalman Passive on there, but find it sitting at about 52degrees C because my case has no airflow (watercooled). It was about 40-44deg when cooled by that annoying whizzy mini-fan thing at 55billion revs.
Cheers,
M
