Anyone any idea what the acceptable range of temps is for a Northbridge on a MS-7025??
I have recently popped a Zalman Passive on there, but find it sitting at about 52degrees C because my case has no airflow (watercooled). It was about 40-44deg when cooled by that annoying whizzy mini-fan thing at 55billion revs.
Cheers,
M
This might seem an odd question but, If your running water cooling why don't you stick a water block on the chipset and plumb it in?

No - its a good question, it's because i dont want to de-couple all the watercooling i have in there at present - its a right faff, and i know i'll spill coolant all over.

The Zalman block was about £22 as well and the passive solution was much cheaper - although this wasn't a big factor.

I've been thinking of using the Zalman passive blue chipset cooler for ages (I've even bought one) But, I'm not sure about using it with the Nforce chipsets because they are combined North/south Bridges and Its concerned me about the heat generated. Its interesting to see what temps. you have been getting.

Well, i ran a couple of 80mm fans from behind the HDDs as a test, and the airflow provided was sufficient to take the temps back down to about 46C (not much higher than with the little fan - which i will note was VERY poorly applied with virtually no compound between the fan and chipset, so little in fact that when i removed it there was NO residue on the chipset).

I'd suggest the passive cooling is fine on the nF3 chipset providing you have 'some' airflow in your case.

I have an issue or two with my board and i thought i might ask you guys if you have any idea what the problem is before i rma it. I have had the board ages and this problem ages to but its really anoying me now..

Sometimes, when i press delete to enter the bios, instead of taking me to the bios, i get a black screen with a flashing white curser. It happens quite often but not all the time. It seems to happen more when i restart rather than power down and up again but i hev had it happen when i do that to. Any ideas?

Also, the AGP lock on this board, am i supposed to set it to 66 or 67?

Set the AGP to 67.

As for the flashing cursor, usually a complete CMOS clear will stop this.
Shutdown, switch off PSU or unplug, wait for PSU to discharge fully or just press power switch a couple of times, move CMOS jumper into clear position, wait about 30ecs-1 minute, Put jumper back, power back up, go into BIOS, load optimized defaults, F10 and exit, back into BIOS and adjust to your settings.

Apologies if the above is teaching you to suck eggs ;)

I have relised that if i power down, wait about 10 seconds and then restart the pc then i cat get into the bios overy time without the problem.

But why do i get the problem when i restart?

i think its a bug but im not sure i have mentioned this and have posted that prob further back in this post...

Is anyone running an X2 CPU on this motherboard? I dont fancy a major machine overhaul just yet - and wondered if its as simple as upgrading the bios, fitting the CPU, switching on, Installing drivers/ maybe a reformat.

Yeah, all you do is:-

1 - up the BIOS. I used the MSI Update thingy.

2 - Slap the x2 in

3 - Switch on

4 - Realise that you dont actually need the power and you have spent on somethign that you are not going to need for quite some time yet.

5 - Regret that you got that pathetic 6600 and wished you got the 6800 instead!

6 - find weird and woinderfull ways to justify your purchase like deliberately starting up more apps than you have ever done, jsut to say it was worth it.

Well, thats what I went through anyway when I got the 4800

I know im being just lazy but I havent the time to read 54 pages, can somebody let me know which bois to go for, i want to max a fx57 out on air and I need the best one, cheers for you help, much appreciated

The flashing white cursor is in the top left corner, and the problem is related to USB.

Disconnect all USB devices, connect you keyb via PS/2 and you will be able to enter setup.

But the only thing i have connected through usb is a epson printer. Can that be giving me the problem? If so, i cant really disconnect my printer just so that i can get into the bios when restarting.

Have you tried his suggestion? Or just trying to pick an argument. :)

If you can't be bothered to get up and unpluge the cable, at least turn the printer off as that should give you the same result.
