Seems anything over 1080p needs dual gpus for maximum settings, Hope they optimise the game a lot more when out of Beta.

Personally, I think that's the way it should be. Think it through - if a game's maximum settings only need below maximum hardware, then game developers are not taking full advantage of the potential of PCs. People who pay for the best hardware (like dual GPUs) should get a better experience for their money. And that's logically not possible if maximum settings are viable on lesser hardware.

Now if a game needs top-end hardware to achieve average results because it's poorly coded and doesn't run well at all on average hardware, that's another matter. But the ideal scenario is one where developers actually exploit the best hardware people have. Maybe we've gotten so used to poor ports that if you see a game needs dual-GPU to run maximum settings the brain automatically reacts: "poorly optimized". But that's not the way it should be.

While I agree that is 'ideal', I'd stop short of saying that's how it should be. Game developers are not obligated to push graphics and settings just to appease those who bought $2000 worth of GPU's and make them feel better about their purchase. Sometimes a developer has a specific graphics target in mind and if they meet that, then they're happy and would rather spend remaining resources on improving more important aspects of the game.

That said, a somewhat easy way to 'support' high end setups is to make the HUD/UI a separate layer at a fixed resolution(or individually scalable) so people can downsample and not have it affect playability. That way people can push 4k or 5k or whatever and at least see some benefits of their extra power.

Only looked at the benchmark so far but it looks stunning, can't say anything about playability just yet.

For some reason I can't get it to run in DX12, I can't see the option to enable it anywhere, all I can see is the API listed as DX11. This is in win10 with a 7950. Any ideas?

When you launch it in steam it gives the option to run DX11 or DX12?

While I conceptually agree in the real world where games cost a lot to make I'd rather the dev budget was focused on systems people actually have rather than a super tiny part of the potential user-base. It's not like there are no bugs to fix, no performance optimisations left to do, no storyline improvements that could be made etc etc.

People in general has very wrong idea about settings. Think about this benchmark for example. Ultra now consists of 16/16M samples. When Ultra on previous patch was 16M/32M samples.(You can still use higher settings than game options allow you to).

Why I mention this? Simply because people assume that when they move from game to another and suddenly they have to drop settings from ultra to high, they don't realise that the high they are now forced to use, could actually be better setting than ultra in previous game was.

There is no shame in lowering detail levels.

I am personally playing with superb settings :P

ShadingSamples=32
TerrainShadingSamples=32
4xMSAA

Next level would be Kaapsgod setting, where you increase msaa to 8X :) (dunno if the game supports higher than that)

Seriously, I feel it's quite hard for developers to decide with default settings, as they know that if they give too high ultra settings, people will call it's badly optimised. Yet, you kinda wish after few years after that you're game would have that extra level of settings to be used when your new card is too powerfull for it. Maybe fully dynamic detail level would be nice.

Btw, what is Titan X's memory usage on 4k ?

No. Just launched it again; no steam window popup; no option on the startup screen, no options in settings. Only thing I can think of is if it's on the startup/home screen I may not be seeing it because I'm running an old standard monitor with an old resolution, but it seems to be supported.

You have to launch it from your game library not an icon or tile.
