yes its kind of like starcraft or command and conquer. The battles are very intense although ive been using it to test dx12 performance mostly i plan i diving into the game headfirst soon.

is this a strategy type game like star craft/warhammer/civilisation etc or is that just how the bench shows it?

Kind of, the battles are nowhere near as hectic as the benchmark shows though, I think they've made that just to test performance under extreme situations. I haven't played the game for quite a while but it certainly didn't play anything like the benchmark.
