Was just curious. Seemed odd to use an AIO in a position where it's struggling for air, when the CPU socket is so well ventilated.
No issues, half the fun is the challenge of doing the difficult. You have a fair point, the case is well ventilated, mainly due to the custom panels.
I could use a 120mm fan there on a cooler, but say I use a 15mm Noctua 120mm fan, I then only have 33mm for the actual cooler itself, and this assumes the fan is right up against the side panel. In reality this positioning is far from ideal as a fan right next to the side panel will create additional air turbulence, and hence noise. To reduce this noise the fan would ideally have a gap between the side panel and itself.
This is the fun on MITX, and why I like it. I could use a Noctua L9i cooler (I actually have one), which is probably the best cooler which would fit this case, but it again only has a 92mm fan (as does the AIO), and will not be as effective as the AIO. I also have a Silverstone AR06 cooler, which is a good cooler (better than the Noctua l9i), but wont fit in this case unfortunately at 58mm tall (and I am currently using it in my Ghost S1 Case). I would like to try the AR05, but don't have one.
I totally agree, the AIO is starved of air, but for general / typical use, so far seems to be able to cope, though you now make me want to go though the pain of rewiring just to test different air coolers!!
I may try to put another Noctua 92mm fan under the motherboard to draw more air though, but not sure this will be of any actual benefit and may just increase noise. I like small and silent, which don't really go together...
