Cracking system - fantastic idea :)

I showed a friend of mine who has a lot of high end lighting, he said they're a waste of time. A decent ring flash costs a pretty penny so you can imagine the kind of light you'll get from these bolt on speedlite ones at under £20.

I've weighed my tripod kit now and have decided I want a high end carbon fibre one.

Red Snapper RS324 non alloy model:
Without ball head: 2.3KG
With ball head (Calumet Pro): 3KG
With 5D3 and 35mm 1.4 attached: 4.2KG (Although the bathroom scales would not weigh just camera on its own so don't know how accurate this reading is :p).

Quite a bit of weight to lug around.
Getting a CF model will shave off over 1KG of carry weight off my back when trekking, is 1KG worth the difference in price though? I need to decide this. Friend of mine has a CF Manfrotto pod and it's considerably lighter than mine but just as tough.

I've been starting to consider the weight of things. I've now got all but 2 lenses I want, and they can wait, but I really need to get a decent tripod. I left it until last as I can make do.

I remember the days when I had a 300D and a nifty fifty. Ahh, light weight :D

I'm curious on people's opinion regarding weight.

At the moment in my bag I have the 6D, a sigma 50, the 24-105 and the 100-400L. Whilst none of these are massively heavy (ok the 100-400 needs a bit of getting used to), I've had no issue lugging it all around.... The thing is, I don't really need anything more than that. Even if I expanded my lens collection, I don't see why I'd need to take more than three lenses out unless I'm doing a wedding or massive shoot kind of thing (unlikely).

In the grand scheme of things is 1kg really going to make a huge difference to your overall setup?

Carrying it isn't really an issue if you go out with specific shots in mind. Just recently I've fancied doing a larger range of things whilst out and about. Normally I'll have just the 5dmk3, battery grip, two batteries and the 85L & 35L. Recently I've been wanting to do some longer stuff too so would need the 70-200 with me. When you're wandering around for hours on end, it can be a struggle, especially if you have a problem that I have at the moment, which is a borked rotator cuff in my shoulder.

Also, it's taking some getting used to using the flash due to similar problems with my wrist. Other than that, I'd just shove the lot in my backpack and happily toddle around. It does get tiring having to constantly take off a backpack/shoulder bag and swap things around or going into restaurants/pubs and finding somewhere to sit where your kit wont get nicked. You start getting paranoid when you think about the fact that just with 3 lenses and a body you've got over £7000 with you!

That's what I'm thinking. Usually when I carry my tripod around it's already got my camera on there and thus the weight is extra. When I used my friend's tripod it didn't have a camera on when picking it up and you can feel the weight difference right away as it's half the weight of my one. Once the camera is attached the difference is between 1 and 2 KG less on his CF - With everything on there I guess that kind of difference is negligible.

I'll just use it as an excuse to get more exercise each time I shoot outdoors :p

Although this thread is mostly dslr's i am excited to being receiving my Olympus XZ-2 Digital Camera tomorrow :) anyone here have one? what are your thoughts on this compact beast.

I really like the leash and cuff, the leash is a bit uncomfortable as a neck strap if you're wearing just a tshirt but I use it as a sling.
