The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Get rid of the centre column and attach the head straight to the tripod. It'll make the whole attachment more sturdy and a lot lighter, unless you need the extra foot of height and don't mind the stability issues.

I use mine with a 120-300 with added TCs and it's nice and stable in the above configuration.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do I think :)

Not sure you can with these tripods :/ certainly with mine if I remove the column then there's nothing to attach a head to!

The Pro version you can't due to being able to twist the centre column in all sorts of directions. The non pro versions allow you to do it however.

Odd but true.:p It's why I ended up with the non pro.

Wanted to get into photography for some time, so thought this would be a good starter unit other than the normal phone-cam or pocket cam -

Its not as fan-dangle as some of the more expensive units, money was tight as it was part of a birthday gift, but seemed to have good features for the money, i was looking at getting a larger lens to work with it, something like the 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX, which can be had for around the £90 mark, or would there be better suggestions, would that be a good choice as an additional lens ?

The wife and I have just treated ourselves to the 3200 for a Christmas pressie as we would both like to get into Photography as a hobby, where did you purchase the extra lense from out of interest?

Managed to get the camera for £309 after cashback.

The extra lens (55-200) was off the bay, was new so works perfectly, it's a good additional lens to the starter kit lens for me, will work well for you too.

Christmas present, just received:

I've been using a tamron 28-75mm as my walk around ever since I got my 5dmkii and I've ummed and arrred over an upgrade ever since. Finally plummed for the 24-105mm the range is great for a walk around/travel lens and the f4 max aperture is fine for 90% of my shooting. Add the fact that I've been using primes more and more when I want that extra speed and quality and it made this purchase an easy one in the end. Only had it five minutes but already loving how wide it is, the super quick USM focussing and the IS.

First L as well could this be the start of the slippery slope!

Got a very nice leather case for my camera. Comes with a built in grip as well which makes 1 hand shooting far safer without using my leather wrist strap. Piccy to follow shortly!

edit, pics! (sorry about the quality, taken on phone)

Oo that's really nice actually. I've been almost crying lately because my brain has decided I need the M9 monocrom. I'm absolutely addicted to the images I've spent days looking at. The closest I think I'll ever afford is the M8 with filter removed :( Also, thanks to my solicitor dragging her heels and doing literally ZERO work for me in the last 3 weeks, I now have to wait until the end of January to get my 24-70mkII and 70-200mkII :(

Ha they are lovely camera's. Have you tried one before? I was really surprised at how heavy they actually are due to the solid brass construction. Feels alien coming from a DSLR, but far more fun to use and vastly more rewarding. I wouldn't get an M8 due to the filters and then the crop factor. Save for an M9 mate but also for the leica glass thats also extremely pricey. The size of most of the glass though compared to both of those canon lenses you named is startlingly different, with the 35mm f2 lens that I have being about 3 times the size of the rear cap of those lenses in height (even less in width!)

Nice, Luigi case? Or a Zhou? Never got on with half-cases myself, such a hassle with film cameras, although it isn't as bad with digital. I have one for my X-Pro 1 but I ditched it in favour of the handgrip they make.

Just got a Canon 5DmkIII at long last. Saving up for the 24-105mm lens. Going to use the 70-200 f4 until then. Broke as a twig now..

No hate needed

I have to give it back in two weeks, trying to think of places to photograph while I have it. Fantastic bit of kit wish I had it while in Yellowstone.
