The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Oopsie, I slipped and fell on the order button and bought a Sigma 35 1.4 Art, hub and b+w pro uv filter :D

Good job it's payday soon, I'm running out of cash :D

Not yet released in the UK I don't think, yet to have a proper play with it but very impressed with it so far. Huge improvements from my 1st gen NEX5 :)

I've just created a thread asking about the A6000 vs XT-1 (moving from an NX300), it would be great to hear your thoughts after you've had more time with the unit. :)

Apart from the 70-200mm, new purchases (and a D600). Photo so crap you can't see them - 50mm 1.4 AF-D, 14-24mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8.

The lovely 3 kings ;)

I had these when I shot Nikon a few years back, the 14-24mm was truly amazing. :D

Anyone here have the 14mm 2.8 L II?

I'm looking to get a wider lens than the 17-40mm and the 14mm L II is appealing.

Seen some of those shots over the years it seems!

Everything points to minimal distortion to the point where you won't notice any barrel distortion on straight lines etc. Good sharpness and use in low light (2 essential things for me).

Only downer being no use of front filters.

I'll probably hold on a bit longer see if Sigma announce an Art series in that range, if they do then I'll go there instead but as of now there doesn't appear to be any competition to the 14mm L.

If Sigma do make an ART in that range, it will be at least 12 months, the 50mm is not even out yet.

Personally, there is more chance of them doing a 24mm, 85mm, 135mm and 200mm primes first before a 14mm. You are potentially be waiting at least 5 years that's even if they release one every year then the 14mm.

That's a lot of pictures you will be missing.

You know i am right that the chances of a 14mm being released before say the 85mm or the 24mm is slim. There are more popular (and thus more profitable) lenses to be made before a 14mm. There is a reason why Canon doesn't have much competition in this focal length, because there isn't really that big a market for it.

So just think about the last sentence in the last post for a minute and think if the waiting is worth it.

Hmm it's really the only option for now yeah. I'll wait a few months, have an an exhibition feature then so if I get good sales then that will make the decision a lot easier.

Yeah it does seem to be phenomenal. There is a bit of a difference in sharpness between 2.8 and something like f8, but the sharpness is beyond what I expected and f8 or whatever is just Woah. Ridiculously sharp. I can see that it's going to be my favourite lens already as it opens up totally different perspectives.

The thing I need to get over is shyness in using it, in getting up close. Sticking a lens like that in people's faces will make me feel like a bit of a tart at first, as the front element is enormous and I'm not yet comfortable with breaching people's personal space to get a photo.

The fact that the front element looks so awesome when shooting at 14mm is worth the money alone. It looks properly amazing.

I've also just received a Samyang 85mm 1.4 from a guy on the Talkphotography forum (not another person on here?!) and it seems awesome! Manual focus of course, but it is amazingly sharp and the bokeh looks fantastic. I think I'll enjoy it once I'm used to manual focus.
