The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Always wondered about these little waterproof cases for SD cards but never actually though about how waterproof SD cards are.

So I've looked it up.

http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/d...erance-(waterproof,-temperature,-magnetic-and

Seems that SanDisk SD, SDHC, microSD and microSDHC memory cards are tested to withstand up to 72 hours in 1m salt or fresh water; IEC 529 IPX7

If you're wondering what the IPX thing is about

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code

So 72 hours in 1 meter of salt water. Hmm might as well keep them in your pocket.

A little over kill for me ;) You're doing something wrong if your memory card case is in the water for that long. With boating it might be useful, especially with those inflatable key rings which inflate automatically when dropped overboard.

Exactly. If you're in salt water for 72 hours then you've definitely got something more to worry about than if your memory cards are going to survive.

Anyway - why not save some money. 35mm film rolls, they come with a really nice low tech waterproof container - very handy for hiking to store matches and tinder in - oh and quite a few small memory cards :)

Alternatively you could use some plastic sandwich bags - low tech is sometimes cheaper and easier.

Yes, this is how I roll! ;)

TX and IIIs now matched up! The RF-602 receiver will act as a wireless shutter release for those shots where I'm not at the camera and need to trigger while controlling the flashes from the TX.

Took me a while to figure out how to put each speedlite into a group and synchronise it with the TX. I could have read the manual but which bloke reads manuals?? :p

I've not read the manual either so it took a while to figure out the M mode to off camera flashes and its power in all the groups too :D

Had this little lot arrive for me while I was away, just wish I had more time to get out and use it, I'll be at the fringe this weekend so what better excuse do I need to take the X100 out to play :D

That black X100s is nice. Which version of the 560TX are you using? Does it work with the Fuji? I'm thinking of picking up the Nikon 560TX for my X-Pro1.

Works perfectly with both my X-T1 and X100s. They're manual flashes so there's no Canon/Nikon versions they just list it for search matching.

My initial impressions of the remote/flashes are they're outstanding for the money, very happy :)

You sure? Because my RF603's have a Nikon specific pin layout which makes them incompatible with my Fuji (I'd have to buy the Canon RF603 for it to work). I have a 560III already so I'd like to add two more for a similar setup to yours. Crazy value for money.

And the more I look at that black X100s the more I want one for myself...

You are indeed correct, just checked the boxes and pin layouts, the 560III's are manual/universal and my TX is the canon version which matches the hotshoes :)

So far the X100s is an astonishing camera, really amazed by the images coming out of it and the inbuilt 3 stop ND filter is really handy :D
