The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

It looks very sharp and the colour and contrast is decent. I'd rather have the practicality of the zoom though.

Yeah a zoom is more versatile which is why I have my not so little 200-400 :D

The 400 DO 2 sounds appealing because it's silly sharp and small in comparison but I can't really justify one (of afford one along with this beast)

It's nice to see their DO lenses getting better though :)

Sell your 200-400 for a 100-400 and a 500 F4 for those special moments :)

The trouble with having two lenses is that you feel like you need to carry two lenses to cover all the eventualities... And carrying two things like that sound sucky!

I already cart about a fair amount in my rucksack so I don't need to add to it lol.

I remember looking around Park Cameras when I went to get my 7d2 and I remember thinking "Hmm what lens is that?". I walked over and it was a 100-400mm but I hadn't recognised it because it looked so small even though I'd owned one no long ago lol.

From my experience I have to disagree.

Whenever I was photographing wildlife or motorsport not once did I think, I really need less focal length, it was always the opposite. Therefore I would only need to take a single lens with the longest focal length.

Yeah I can definitely relate when it comes to wildlife! Generally the lens is never long enough but that's to be expected from wild animals :) On the other hand, when I've tried my hand with sports like Rugby and American Football then I've found that even 200mm is too long on my crop body sometimes.

No lens is perfect for everything but I love mine because it covers the most bases (focal range and quality).

Just got a sony rx100 mk1 for my partner for Christmas. The dslr never seems to get used due to the bulk and carrying different lenses around. We have a baby due in June so wanted a great pocket camera.

I have an earlier 50mm Summicron... It's one of my favourite lenses, especially for black and white work.

I picked it up in Hong Kong so not much use in terms of where to get it from. I do know that I bought a spare because I liked it after getting one a year before.

I visit HKG quite a bit with work, and I'm looking to get some kit at some point. I assume it's fairly cheap over there? Any suggestions on where to go? I stay near Victoria Park.

The difference is never enough for me to risk it over customs.

The exchange rate needs to be about $15 to £1 to be worth it.

It's been around $12 for about 5 years now.

But for Airline staffs though ;)

Well you still have a £390 allowance....

Where do you go if you were looking for a decent deal? :p

£390 is pocket change in camera gear...at least for what I want.

As for where, there are chains like Broadway which is in every mall, it's hard to haggle there though but even sticker price is slightly lower than ours. There is a street like our Tottenham court road, the name escapes me at the moment!
