The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

It's still a grey import, as they just import them to their uk warehouse, for instance if I buy a d800, I probably won't be able to register the 2 year warranty, in fact I won't have any official warranty, just faith in the store to honour their promise of their own warranty service.

Light meter, fathers day pressie from my little monster.

I always wanted to add a light meter to my kit, what made you choose this one?
I've shoot with several different people that have used ths model and it did the job fine, only other alternative I've seen/used is the more expensive 358 model so decision came down to cost plus the smaller size makes it ideal to stick in your pocket when not used.

As for going with the bright blue colour, again cost eBay deal with it being cheaper than the standard black plus it will make finding it in the kit bag amongst all the other black gizmos a lot easier.

My new lumix g2 loving it so far. :D
Got an fd to m43 adapter, canon fd 50mm f1.8, fd 28mm f2.8 (cheap off ebay), spare battery, 16gb sd card and camera bag to come.:p

A friend of mine told me I don't take enough risks, but as I sit here turning dials and taking photos then turning more dials, I'm thinking maybe I should have stuck to what I know, lol.

Tho I have worked out how to get it out of Auto mode change the ISO and move the wee focus point thing without looking at the manual

Too much kit ordered today...wanted to re-enter the DSLR realms so did it in style...

7D, 24-105mm, 70-200mm F4 IS, 100-400mm, grip, extra battery, few 32gb cards, 580 EX II...prob overkill...view to go FF maybe next year. Was not sure to go 400mm prime, but happy with choosing the 100-400mm to be honest. I used to have a 70-200mm before and I loved it.

Mainly for my girlfriend's running events, nature, and the amount of times we have went on holiday and I have been annoyed to not have had a DSLR again and again..like last month we were in Cape Verde and we saw whales breaching...our measly £100 POS had no chance. Flash because I had never done it before and want to experiment.

I used to own a 400d and 40d before. Will post pics of the boxes tomorrow when it all arrives

Not really sure why. £300 saving is no small thing. Out of interest, just how much equipment have you had fail within the first year anyway?

Nikon 1.4xTC that needed calibration, nikon 35mm f/1.8 needed calibration, I went through several tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 before giving up and getting sharp one. I will always choose a bricks and mortar camera shop I can walk into , failing that a good quality online reputable dealer. Warranties are sometimes much longer than 1 year, e.g. my Nikon lenses purchases in Switzerland have a 3 year warranty. Sigma I believe offer a 5 year warranty.
Furthermore, even out of warranty Canon/Nikon etc are much more likely to resolve a problem cheaply or for free if it is legitimate white-version and not a grey import. E.g., if it turned out that every Canon 5dMKIII (or D800) developed major faults just outside the warranty period then there is a high chance that they will rectified the problem for free or low cost, but if you have a grey import then they either wont fix the problem or charge full price.

The 24-105 i bought had a few specs of dust under the front glass. This was fixed extremely fast by digital rev (via canon). On the flipside i tried to get a lens issue sorted from wex and it took them 3 weeks to even reply to me. Maybe its different for nikon with their longer warrantys. But i dont see the difference between kerso and digital rev when speed or validity warranty is concerened. At the end of the day they are both grey imports.
